An Adelaide father charged with the alleged attempted murder of his three-year-old daughter has appeared in court.
Police were called to Shaun Mate’s house in Kinedana St, Eden Hills, late on Thursday night, after a call for urgent assistance.
Officers spoke to a woman there before going into a bedroom where they allegedly found Mate, 43, and a three-year old girl both unconscious, and an open gas tank nearby.
The pair were treated at the scene before they were taken to Flinders Medical Centre in a critical condition and placed into induced comas.
The little girl has begun to recover, and has been transferred to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Mate’s condition improved enough on Sunday that police could arrest him at the Medical Centre for attempted murder and was refused bail, a SA Police spokeswoman confirmed to NCA NewsWire.
Mate appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court via telephone from Flinders Medical Centre on Monday.
Magistrate Kym Millard heard that there would be no bail application on Monday.
He remanded Mate in custody until next week when the case will be moved to Adelaide Magistrates Court where he is likely to apply for bail.
