Man arrested after fatal crash at Kersbrook | Fatal crash at Wirrabara | Crash on Anzac Highway

A rubbish truck has emptied a full load on Grand Junction Rd after the driver saw smoke. And a man has died on the Horrocks Highway, the third fatal crash in 48 hours.

A garbage truck has dumped rubbish on to one of Adelaide’s busiest roads after the driver suspected his load had caught alight.

A hard waste truck was travelling along Grand Junction Rd when the driver noticed smoke coming from the rear.

“Suspecting the hard waste items may have caught alight, the driver undertook standard procedure and emptied the load,” the council said.

“This is necessary to ensure the safety of the driver and the public, while preventing the waste collection vehicle being destroyed by fire.

“The driver used on-board fire extinguishers, before MFS and SAPOL responded to extinguish the load completely and manage traffic around the area.”

Council staff are cleaning the rubbish with a front-end loader and street sweeper, and traffic is down to one lane along Grand Junction Rd in the area.

The council urged residents to be careful of how they dispose of their rubbish.

“Unfortunately, incidents like this can sometimes occur, which is why we need residents to be mindful of what is discarded into councils waste collection services,” it said.
