A Year 9 student at one of Adelaide’s largest special education schools has sustained minor injuries after he was stabbed during an altercation in his Plympton classroom.
Emergency services were called to Errington Special Education Centre before 11.30am on Monday morning after reports of an incident.
The teenage boy, who was stabbed in the shoulder by another male student, was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Flinders Medical Centre.
School principal Niki Takos said it was an “isolated incident” involving two students.
“Both SA Ambulance and SA Police were called to the school as a result of this,” she said.
Ms Takos said support is being provided to students and staff and that the “appropriate consequences will be taken”.
Police and the Education Department are currently investigating the incident.
“I’ve been to Errington before and the staff there are incredible people who operate under some very challenging circumstances,” Education Minister Blair Boyer said.
“Incidents of violence like this, with the kids who go to Errington, do happen from time to time and I know they’ll be hurting as well,” he said.
