Worker attacked with hammer in Salisbury shopping centre robbery bid

A robber armed with a hammer and dressed in camouflage gear has attacked a shop worker while trying to steal electronic goods from a northern suburbs shopping centre.

A shop worker was attacked with a hammer by a thief stealing goods at a northern suburbs store on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to a shopping centre on John Street, Salisbury, just after 4pm on Wednesday, after reports that a man armed with a hammer had broken into the store.

The man had smashed the window then attempted to steal electronic goods.

A male staff member tried to stop the suspect, but the worker was allegedly hit on the arm with the hammer before the suspect fled the scene empty-handed.

The worker sustained minor injuries from the attack.

The suspect was last seen running towards the bus interchange and is described as being of caucasian appearance, with blond hair and beard.

The suspect was wearing a black beanie and gloves, camouflage jacket and pants.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
