A Windsor Gardens mother was buying dinner supplies when she was killed in a shocking crash minutes from home on Saturday night.

Christine Sandford, 40, was leaving a service station on North East Rd when her Holden station wagon was struck just before 10pm.

“I’m just going to the servo to get some oil, because I need to for food,” Ms Sandford was captured saying on home CCTV not long before her death.

She never made it home, dying at the Windsor Gardens scene where a Ford Mustang had collided with her car.

The 22-year-old Mustang driver of Ottoway was uninjured. He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and granted police bail to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

SA Police Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott alleged Ms Sandford was T-boned leaving the petrol station and the role speed played in the crash would be investigated.

“Witness accounts prior to that crash, have that vehicle weaving in and out of traffic,” he said.

Mr Parrott said the fact it was a high-powered Mustang was not a dominant factor in the crash.

“It really doesn’t matter what type of car you drive, cars are effectively a one time bullet and they can cause carnage regardless of what they are,” he said.

“If you drive safely and appropriately on our roads, every car and every person would be safe.”

Following three fatal crashes in a horrific 30 hours on the state’s roads, Mr Parrott urged young drivers to take extra caution.

“You’re not invincible, you’re not bullet proof and there is no kudos in putting yourself on social media doing stupid things in your car,” he said.

“You might be liked by your friends on TikTok for five seconds, but you may end up on the front page of a newspaper.”

Ms Sandford‘s death has taken the number of lives lost on South Australian roads to well more than double the 16 at the same time last year.

The woman’s death is the 35th life lost on South Australian roads so far this year, compared with 16 at the same time last year.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage that may assist with the investigation into the fatality can provide their details via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The crash comes just a day after mother-of-two psychologist Georgina Heath was killed in a crash in the early hours of Saturday in two-car collision on Main South Rd, Hackham.

Dr Heath died at the scene while her partner was among five people seriously injured in the crash.

And on Friday afternoon, the father of former Port Adelaide players Justin and Matthew Westhoff died in a motorcycle crash at Vine Vale.

The motorcycle of Danny Westhoff, 59, left the road and crashed into a tree at the intersection of Light Pass Rd and Basedow Rd just after 5.30pm.
