Woman and child hospitalised in Adelaide’s north, police investigate city blaze after spate of house fires

A woman and child have been treated in hospital after a spate of house fires across Adelaide overnight – one of which was suspicious.

A woman and child have been hospitalised following a fire in Adelaide’s north, while police are investigating a blaze believed to be deliberately lit in the city.

Firefighters were first called to a house fire at Gray St, on the corner of Waymouth St in the CBD, about 8.15pm on Tuesday and arrived at a to find a small two-storey house fully involved in fire.

The damage has been estimated at $350,000 and fire cause investigators are at the scene this morning to determine the cause.

Fire crews prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining houses and the MFS estimated their efforts saved a total of $1 million dollars in property damage.

Hours later, a fire in a home at Ottoway in Adelaide’s north saw a woman and a child transported by ambulance for smoke inhalation.

About 12.15am on Wednesday morning, emergency services received a triple-0 call and attended a fire at Larsen Ct address.

MFS appliances and eight firefighters arrived to find a smoke detector had activated and all occupants evacuated.

Two firefighters in breathing apparatus found a small fire in the bedroom creating a lot of smoke, which was quickly extinguished.

Damage was confined to the bedroom only and there was no structural damage.

The cause was accidental.

Meanwhile, in Adelaide’s south, at Aberfoyle Park, just before 8:30pm three MFS appliances and two CFS trucks arrived at a house fire on Maple Ave to find smoke and flames coming from a home.

All occupants of the house evacuated with no injuries and the fire took firefighters 20 minutes to control, causing extensive damage to the house.

The MFS said the cause had just to be determined.

Another fire at a property on Watcombe St in Moana at 10.30pm caused residents to evacuate their home.

Two MFS appliances assisted by one CFS appliance arrived to find a fire in a carport.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire in 10 minutes.

The cause was accidental with the damage contained to the garage and the damage bill has been estimated at $30,000.
