A newlywed Whyalla couple’s beloved bike was stolen from their house just hours after saying ‘I do’.
Kelly, 43 and José Magan, 41, returned home Sunday to find their shed broken into and Mr Magan’s motorbike stolen at 6.50am, just minutes before they returned home.
The stolen vehicle, a 2003 blue Yamaha YZ250, was an early wedding present from Mrs Magan to her husband, who is an avid motorbike rider.
The thieves had initially tried to steal the couple’s kids’ bikes, but when they couldn’t, they targeted Mr Magan’s bike.
First breaking into the shed at 5.30am, they realised the bike was heavy locked.
They returned an hour later with a grinder stealing the bike as well as a helmet and goggles.
The couple were ‘absolutely devastated’.
“I’m heartbroken. Have we even been able to enjoy our wedding?,” Mrs Magan said.
“We haven’t even really looked at wedding photos.
“I haven’t even had a taste of my wedding cake.”
Unable to relish in their wedded bliss, Mrs Magan said tearfully that the bike was ‘family’ to them, and that they had been “robbed of the most beautiful day of their lives”.
“All we were worried about was finding these bikes. It’s been a nightmare.”
In a Facebook post detailing the incident, Mrs Magan expressed the couple’s devastation, saying she wants to ‘see her husband smile again’ and that ‘they both deserve to be happy’.
Despite the sad developments, community support has been overwhelming.
“I’d like to say thank you to the Whyalla community for helping,” Mrs Magan said.
“We have had so many friends and people just sharing [the post].
“It’s just nice to see everyone sharing it and getting involved. It’s been amazing.”
The newlyweds have also promised a reward for anyone who helps find their stolen bike.
“If someone’s got Jose’s bike, I want it back,” she said.
