Tyson Christopher Wilson guilty of damaging property after throwing roof tiles at police

A part-time gyprocker has avoided jail after he pleaded guilty to hurling dozens of roof tiles at police and mooning them in a bizarre stand-off earlier this year.

A 20-year-old tradie from Glenelg yawned as he pleaded guilty to seven charges including property damage and affray.

Tyson Christopher Wilson appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrate court on Wednesday after he climbed on a roof back in January, throwing roof tiles at six police officers feet.

The court heard police were called to Burgoyne Drive, Old Reynella on January 9 around 6pm where Wilson spent more than two and a half hours on the roof of a woman unknown to him.

“You proceed to remove tiles from the roof, throwing them, yelling and swearing throughout,” Magistrate Lynette Duncan said.

“At the time of their arrival, the police officers were trying to talk you down but you were angry and arguing.

“You shouted at an officer who wore glasses ‘hey four eyes’ before throwing a large piece of tile at him.”

Damage was also caused to a number of other vehicles, houses and a laundromat with around 30 tiles found in a rear yard.

The court heard Mr Wilson was angry at his father in the lead up to the incident.

“It was apparent you were targeting officers because after throwing you would say ‘almost got you there’ or ‘that was close’,” Magistrate Duncan said.

“You were celebrating when you caused damage and yelling abuse at police throughout and at one point pulled your pants down and mooned them.”

The court heard Wilson had struggled with mental health and his anger and dealing with emotion.

Wilson was remanded in custody for 10 days before being granted home detention bail until June 1.

Wilson was sentenced to three months imprisonment suspended for 18 months on a good behaviour bond.

He was also ordered to pay $1900 compensation to the victims.
