Police have arrested a man accused of breaking into a home in Hackham while a second suspect, involved in the incident, remains at large.

The men are accused of breaking into a home about 9.30pm on Thursday December 14 with one man entering the house armed with a hammer and stick – which he allegedly used to intimidate a female resident.

The accused stole Christmas presents the grandmother had bought for her grandchildren and cash from the home before leaving his accomplice – who was waiting outside – in charge of the house.

The man then allegedly coerced the grandmother into her car, drove to a nearby ATM and forced her to withdraw cash before handing it over to the perpetrator.

The woman was dropped off at her home afterwards, she was physically unharmed.

Upon returning to the scene of the crime, the first man took off in the woman’s car and his accomplice left in a red sedan/utility.

The accused then contacted his victim, which led to his arrest.

Southern District Detectives arrested a 33-year-old Greenacres man who has been charged with robbery, serious criminal trespass, illegal use of a motor vehicle, theft and driving while being disqualified.

He has been refused bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday, December 18.

Police are searching for the second man involved in the incident.

The stolen car was located early Saturday morning in Plympton Park.
