A 31-year-old woman from Renown Park has died after a fatal crash at Pooraka on Thursday night.
About 10pm, police and emergency services were called to Montague Rd near Henderson Ave after two cars, a Hyundai Elantra and a Toyota Camry, crashed, causing one of the cars to hit a tree.
Two occupants in the Hyundai Elantra sustained serious injuries in the crash and were rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
A woman died a short time later and her passenger, a 40-year-old man from Renown Park, is in a critical condition.
The driver of the Toyota, a 20-year-old man from Ingle Farm, was not injured.
Montague Rd was closed for most of the night while Major Crash officers investigated the circumstances of the crash, and the road was reopened about 5.30am.
Deano Barcello, who lives near where the crash occurred, said he went outside after he heard a loud bang.
“Heard the bang and probably got out there 10 minutes after and had a look. I did hear the bang thinking it was a car accident,” said Mr Barcello.
Mr Barcello said he saw a car on a traffic island rammed into a tree and another car on the road with its front smashed.
Mr Barcello said the intersection is a difficult piece of road at the best of times.
“Turning right out of there is just havoc all the time... Even turning left is not that easy either because you get cars coming straight our of Main North Rd speeding away.”
