The Advertiser/7NEWS Adelaide update: Body found at West Beach, Police officer stabbed at Findon

The body of 54-year-old Northern Territory man was found in a submerged car at West Beach on Thursday morning.

Police were called to the boat ramp at 6am after a report of two cars submerged in the water.

It is believed the cars had entered the water some time overnight.

Water Operations Police were called in to help with the search and found the man’s body in one of the vehicles.

Onlooker “Tully” – who has a makeshift camp underneath the boat ramp – said he did not hear anything overnight.

“The police just rocked up and we saw the car getting pulled out of the water this morning,” he said.

“It’s very strange.”

One of the cars, a Mitsubishi Pajero, was removed from the water around 9am. The other, a ute, was later removed and loaded on to a truck. Both cars had NSW number plates.

Police and detectives have since been seen at West Beach Caravan Park.

Investigators are believed to have spoken with the owner of the Mitsubishi in a cabin at the park.

The man’s body was removed a little before 2pm.

Glenelg North resident Jim Rawson said he was shocked to hear of the discovery on his afternoon walk past the ramp.

“Hopefully it’s not too sinister. Was it murder? Who knows?” he said.

“It’s pretty disturbing really. I come down here with to the beach with the dogs every day.”

A local woman – who did not wish to be named – said there has been a recent spike in crime in the area.

“I’ve been hearing about a lot of break-ins and stolen cars around West Beach,” she said.

“Nothing as serious as what this seems, though.”

Western District CIB Detectives are investigating, with help from Major Crime and Forensic Response officers.
