Police have charged three people after a three-car collision at Highbury on Monday afternoon left a woman trapped.

Emergency services were called to a crash on Lower North East Rd just after 1.30pm, after a white Toyota Camry crashed into a Mazda sedan, pushing the vehicle into oncoming traffic on the other side of the road.

The Mazda then crashed into a bronze Toyota sedan.

Police allege a Camry, which was involved in the crash, was stolen from a Prospect address on Friday.

The driver of the Camry and two women who were passengers fled the scene.

Police later arrested three people at a Para Vista home.

A 30-year-old man from Ingle Farm has been charged with illegal use, endangering life, leaving the scenes of an incident after causing harm, failing to stop and exchange details, driving disqualified and theft.

A 23-year-old Goodwood woman has been charged with illegal use, theft and fail to truly answer.

The third woman, a 27-year-old from Para Vista was charged with illegal use and an outstanding warrant.

All three did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Highbury resident Nadine Kerslake, 44, said she saw a young man running and crying from the incident.

“I asked, ‘are you OK?’ and he says, ‘oh yeah’ and then this other girl came running out and he looked at her and they both just said ‘go’ and then just took off up (the road),” she said.

“One car was flipped, and when I came out, a couple of guys were pushing it back on its wheels.

“There was a fair bit of damage but the one that they got the lady out of, they’d cut off all the doors, it took about an hour to get her out.”

Another resident, Gurinder, said she was coming home from work when she saw a pile-up of traffic and two young people arguing.

“I saw the cars and there I think there were two young boys in their 20s arguing,” she said.

“All three of the cars were fully damaged.

“There was a lady in the car, she was stuck in there but she got out.”

One witness said she thought the woman who was trapped in the car was pregnant.

Highbury residents said that part of Lower North East Rd was a hotspot for collisions.

The driver of the Mazda sedan, a 31-year-old pregnant woman from Northfield was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre to be medically assessed.

The driver from the bronze Toyota, a 41-year-old woman from Greenwith was not injured.

Police investigations are continuing.
