Two teenagers and a young man will stay behind bars on remand after a scary overnight break-in that left a North Adelaide resident terrified and more than $50,000 in debt.

Kye Nicholson, 20, Corey Galvin, 18, of Hackham West and Dwayne Wanganeen, 18, of Christies Beach, all fronted Christies Beach Magistrates Court via video link on Thursday after allegedly stealing two BMWs and a Louis Vuitton wallet from a property in Medindie about 4am Thursday. They are yet to enter pleas to one charge of property damage and four theft charges.

A police prosecutor said the owner of the house allegedly woke up to his dog barking and was alerted to the robbery by his home-security system.

“He looks out of his window and sees the gate to his driveway has been forced open from the inside so that the gate has been forced outwards,” they said. “The damage to the gate is estimated to be about $20,000.

“Both of his cars are missing from his driveway. He goes to check where he keeps his car keys and both sets are missing, along with his wallet containing all his bank cards, a Louis Vuitton wallet containing his wife’s bank cards and a small bag that contained the house keys.

“There’s also a support post in the front veranda that was knocked out as well, and that’s estimated to be another $20,000 to repair.”

Police said in a statement patrols were called to Avenel Gardens Rd early Thursday morning after the homeowner reported the break-in.

A white and a blue BMW were tracked on to the Southern Expressway near Panalatinga Rd with the help of traffic cameras.

Members of the public then reported a white BMW had crashed on the Southern Expressway at Reynella.

The blue BMW, which had live tracking activated, kept driving south.

Police said the tracking allowed them to follow it along Main South Rd towards Beach Rd, then on to Bains and Seaview roads before it was dumped on Edith St at Morphett Vale.

Police said three people were then seen running from the car.

Patrols placed cordons in the area and police dogs Bandit and Edge were called in to help with the search.

Police found and arrested the defendants in a nearby creek line soon after.

Magistrate Kylie Schulz noted Mr Nicholson, of Christie Downs, was on bail at the time of the alleged offending after a drug trafficking charge, where he was found in possession of 24g of MDMA with four other friends, the court heard.

Defence counsel for each of the accused men applied for bail, which was opposed by the prosecution.

Ms Schulz ordered a home detention report for their proposed addresses, but remanded them in custody.

Defence counsel for Mr Nicholson told the court a charge determination for the alleged trafficking had not yet been made.

They will all face court again next week.
