A teenage driver who was caught driving over 120km/h in a 50km/h speed zone at Freeling, has lost his licence for a year.

Police allege patrols detected a white Ford ute travelling west on Hanson St at about 7.10pm on Thursday.

The vehicle was clocked driving at 128km/h with patrols managing to stop the vehicle a short while after.

Following further checks, police said the ute was unregistered and the driver, a 19-year-old local man, only held a provisional licence – provisional licence holders are not allowed to exceed the 100km/h speed limit at any time, according to government licence conditions.

In a statement on Friday, police said the driver was “reported for driving at an extreme speed, driving unregistered and other traffic offences”.

He immediately lost his license and had his car impounded for 28 days.

The teenager is set to appear in court at a later date.
