A police dog has assisted in the arrest of an alleged thief after store managers witnessed him robbing a service station in an early-morning break-in.

Police were called Elizabeth Way about 1.50am on Monday after reports a man was breaking into the service station.

Store managers watching the man on their mobile phone saw him allegedly steal items, hide them outside and then go back in a second time.

The victim was able to give a clear description of the suspect to police, including that they believed he had broken in through the roof.

Patrols and PD Cooper arrived at the scene but the suspect had already fled and was last seen running east into the Elizabeth Park area.

Local resident Jodie Woodrow told 7News the hoons needed to stop.

“It’s just taking it too far now,” Ms Woodrow said.

“We’ve got burnouts everywhere and it looks like we’re living in an absolute junk yard.

“The locals are going to take action if the police can’t because it’s getting really frustrating.”

Polair were called to Coleman Rd after a vigilant member of the public reported a group of cars gathered at the location and suspected they may be there to do burnouts.

Polair then observed a silver Ford sedan allegedly doing a burn out before speeding away driving dangerously.

The driver headed north into the Waterloo Corner area and travelled into the backstreets of Burton where police attempted to pull him over on Shepley Crescent.

The teenager allegedly failed to stop for police but was eventually tracked down on Tozer Rd where he stopped and got out of the vehicle.

He then allegedly attempted to run from police.

The teenager was bailed to appear at the Elizabeth Youth Court on July 12.

Local resident Rick Woodrow said the groups gathered and filmed themselves doing burnouts.

“You can’t see nothing, there’s just a cloud of smoke,” Mr Woodrow said.

However, fellow resident Jimmy Carlin, who wasn’t part of the group that gathered on Friday night, said they were just having fun.

“We do the best we can to be responsible and safe about it, sometimes it gets out of hand,” Mr Carlin said.

“I am sorry for how late it comes sometimes but honestly, we’re having fun.

“I accept everyone’s wrongs for being a bit unsafe with skids but, you know, besides that part send it because you only live once.”
