A homeless mother-of-three will remain in custody after she was arrested for allegedly threatening a family member, and pouring boiling water over them.
Appearing via video link in the Christies Beach Magistrate Court, Tahlia Rose Edwards, told Magistrate Sarah O’Connor she needed to “re-evaluate” after she allegedly threatened family members with a knife.
Police allege the 28-year-old was staying with family at the time of the altercation, saying her relatives felt empathetic she had nowhere to stay.
“During the early hours of (Monday) morning, she has forcibly removed her children from the premises, stating she didn’t want them staying with paedophiles,” the police prosecutor told the court.
“She poured hot water over her cousins and threatened two family members with a knife.”
The court heard Edwards had her children removed from her care and were residing with her family for around a week.
The police prosecutor told the court Edwards’ family members allowed her to stay overnight on June 20 as she was homeless and they felt sorry for her.
Edwards was later charged with aggravated assault, damage to building and for carrying an offensive weapon.
Her cousin is being treated in the Royal Adelaide Hospital burns unit.
“You need a lawyer, this is a very serious offence, prosecution now have to follow up with the burns unit how serious the injuries are to one of your relatives,” Magistrate O’Connor said.
Magistrate O’Connor ordered the preparation of a bail inquiry report and remanded Edwards in custody.
She will face court again Friday.
