The man charged over the shocking murder of a mother and son in their Rosewater home can be revealed as Joe Campbell.
On Monday, an interim suppression order on Mr Campbell’s identity was lifted allowing The Advertiser to reveal his name.
Antoinette Tozer, 76, and Steve Tozer, 55, were allegedly murdered in their Rosetta St home on Friday, February 2, and were found by relatives the following day.
Emergency services arrived at the home just after 1pm on Sunday, February 3 after a call from relatives.
A short time later, Mr Campbell – who was staying in a Housing Trust property across the street – was arrested and charged with two counts of murder.
Mr Campbell appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, February 5, where he didn’t make an application for bail.
The Advertiser was also able to reveal that Mr Campbell had completed a three-month prison term on January 25 before he began residing at Rosetta St.
The last name “Campbell” can be seen on the side of the property.
Mr Campbell also appeared for a charge relating to the assault of an emergency worker that allegedly occurred after the murder.
“Effectively it’s a part of the charges before the court today,” a police prosecutor said.
“It’s after the events of the allegations.”
Family members of Antoinette and Steve Tozer paid tribute to the “loving” pair.
Steve’s son Joshua Tozer, 23, said he’d last seen his father at Christmas and was shocked to hear of his death.
“He loved us a lot,” he said.
“He was a loving father.”
Mr Tozer also recalled fond memories of his grandmother who he said always had a welcoming presence and was a “lovely woman”.
Denise Palmer, 52 – the ex-partner of Steve and mother of his two sons Matthew, 25, and Joshua, 23 – said she only discovered the tragedy when she saw a news package posted to Facebook.
“Josh and I tried to call Steve,” she said.
“(We) went down there … the street was cordoned off and we knew it was true.”
Ms Palmer also recalled fond memories of Steve and Antoinette, saying that her ex-partner will always be in her heart.
“He’s always been in my heart … it’ll be worse now because I always wondered how he actually really did feel,” she said.
Ms Palmer also said she had a close relationship with Antoinette who she referred to as “lovely”.
“We’ve had good times – good family times. They always made me feel welcome.”
Mr Campbell will next appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in May.
