A Ridleyton father-of-two was out on bail for a drug trafficking charge when police allegedly located him with meth, heroin and fentanyl inside a stolen car on Sunday night, a court has heard.
Niels Elgaard Kristensen, 48, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday via video link charged with seven counts of drug trafficking in a prescribed area, one count of drug trafficking and one count of unlawful possession.
Mr Kristensen is yet to be charged in relation to the alleged stolen car.
He is yet to enter any pleas but his defence counsel told the court their client “denied the allegations” and applied for home detention bail.
A police prosecutor told Magistrate Luke Davis they were opposed to bail and were seeking an 11 month adjournment – alleging Mr Kristensen had ten prior convictions for breaching bail.
Mr Davis noted the defendant had been sentenced in the District Court to nearly four years imprisonment in 2020 for a “raft of drug offences”.
“He’s looking at a substantial period in custody,” he said.
Police allegedly spotted the vehicle in the carpark of a hotel in Plympton just after 10pm on Sunday.
Officers then spoke with the driver and passenger, before searching the white Toyota four-wheel-drive.
They allegedly found about 24 grams of methamphetamine, five grams of heroin, ecstasy, fentanyl, prescription medication and other drug paraphernalia.
Mr Kristensen was arrested at the scene by police, who then searched his home and allegedly found a further 100ml of ecstasy.
A 35-year-old woman who lived at the property was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled drug and possession of a controlled drug and will appear in court at a later date.
On Monday, Mr Davis denied Mr Kristensen’s application for bail and remanded him custody to appear in court in August.
