Salt Creek monster Roman Heinze’s mail to be monitored to protect his daughter, Kendehl, from ongoing verbal abuse

Prison authorities have vowed to stop the Salt Creek “monster” harassing his daughter from jail – but she says they’ve had three years to act, and failed to do so. Read the letters.

The Salt Creek backpackers trial

Prison authorities will “thoroughly screen” the Salt Creek kidnapper’s mail to stop him threatening his daughter – who says she is owed an apology for three years of inaction.

On Tuesday, the Department for Correctional Services said it will take steps to stop Roman Heinze contacting his daughter, Kendehl, and subjecting her to further emotional abuse.

The move comes after The Advertiser revealed Heinze has been hiding mail to Kendehl in his letters to other people, and having them pass it on to her.

Kendehl, however, said she had little faith in the Department – because she warned it of Heinze’s actions in April 2021 and the letters “just kept coming”.

“They’ve known about this, I’ve told them about this, I have emails from them saying I’ve been removed from his mailing list, and it just hasn’t stopped,” she said.

“I think I deserve an apology, really … it’s just not good enough … I want peace without fear.”

She said Heinze had called her “deceitful” and “full of bulls--t”, and vowed to “break the f---ing kneecaps and cave the f---ing head in” of one of her friends.

In one letter, he called Kendehl “one of the most untrustworthy and unreliable” people “I’ve come across in my life” and gave her “two weeks” to follow his instructions “or else”.

“I’ll tell you honestly right now you’ve truly managed to piss me off again and even more so than before,” he wrote, claiming she owed him $35,000.

“You’re trying to f--- up my appeal to the High Court, that’s what it looks like to me … don’t try and keep giving f---ed up excuses and trying to cover for yourself.

“Are you on drugs or just plain stupid? I’ve had enough of this s--t with you … I will settle up with you when I get out, all outstanding matters and debts to me you owe.”

Daughter of Salt Creek monster Roman Heinze speaks out

Heinze, 68, is serving a minimum 17-year prison term for kidnapping and assaulting two backpackers at Salt Creek in February 2016.

He maintains his innocence and is seeking to fund a High Court challenge by suing one of his sons, Jason Heinze, over allegedly missing property.

In a letter, Heinze told Kendehl she and Jason – whom he called, in his lawsuit, a “money-hungry turd” – were “peas in a pod”.

“All along you have been stringing me along and lying to me all the time, over and over … you’re a real f---ing piece of cake, Kendehl,” he wrote.

In another, he expressed outrage that one of Kendehl’s friends had worn Heinze’s prized white pointer shark tooth necklace.

“This prick is lucky for now as I would break his f---ing kneecaps and cave his f---ing head in if I was free on the outside,” he wrote.

“I am extremely disappointed to see this c--- with my property … this is how you’ve been looking after my stuff for me? Are you for real, Kendehl?

“How are my drawings? I’ll tell you now and only once they had better be in top A1 condition.

“Do not try to contact me, we’re done, well and truly … you’re a total stranger to me now, you’re a lying piece of shit.”

On Tuesday, a Department for Correctional Services spokeswoman said it could not stop “someone in the community” forwarding on messages – but it could stop Heinze.

“Where the department becomes aware that a prisoner is using a third party to forward a letter, then we will take action,” she said.

“When a specific situation such as this is brought to the department’s attention, all mail outgoing from the prisoner in question will be thoroughly screened irrespective of existing red flags.”

Kendehl said the Department “should be checking all mail, regardless” to ensure not just her, but all people, were not being threatened by inmates.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe on the outside and not feel like they have to constantly watch their back and keep checking,” she said.

“This is another form of domestic violence, and enough is enough – innocent people should not be silenced when they are being abused by others.”
