SATURDAY, APRIL 03

SPEEDERS CAUGHT ACROSS SA

Two serious speeders have been caught overnight – including one who drove more than 77km/h over the speed limit.

A 54-year-old Glynde man was nabbed driving at 187km/h an hour on the Augusta Highway, near Crystal Brook, after 8.30pm on Good Friday.

The man, who was driving in a 110km/h zone, was reported for driving at a speed dangerous to the public and his Ford Falcon was impounded for 28 days.

He will appear in court at a later date.

Meanwhile, after 11pm, a Nissan station wagon was found travelling at 145km/h on Main North Road at Evanston South – a 90km/h zone.

The 17-year-old P-plate driver from Gawler was fined $1780 for speeding and breaching his licence conditions and lost his licence for six months.

MAN ON RUN AFTER PLYMPTON STABBING

A man had to be given emergency surgery after being stabbed in the arm at Plympton on Friday night.

Police have yet to find the suspected attacker.

The 27-year-old victim was found by police at a Netherby Avenue property at about 7.30pm on Friday with a “serious laceration” to his arm.

He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious condition and underwent emergency surgery.

Police have spoken to multiple people at the property and are searching for a man known to the victim.

FRIDAY, APRIL 02

WEAPONS FOUND IN MURRAY BRIDGE HAUL

A man has been arrested after police located weapons and drugs in Murray Bridge on Friday.

After a tip from Crime Stoppers, police went to a Murrary Bridge address about 9am, where they found ammunition and prohibited weapons including capsicum spray, double edged knives, knuckledusters, a sling shot, a taser and firearms parts.

A quantity of drugs including meth, cannabis and drug equipment was also located.

A 39-year-old local man was arrested and charged with breaching a firearms prohibition order, possessing ammunition, possessing prohibited weapons, possessing a dangerous article, possessing a controlled drug and breaching bail.

He will appear in court on Tuesday.

MAN REPORTED FOR LIGHTING FIRE ON HIS PROPERTY

A man has been reported for allegedly starting a grass fire on his own property during fire danger season at Stockport on Friday morning.

Large plumes of smoke were coming from a fire at a property on Salt Creek Road about 10am. Crews quickly contained the blaze, and police spoke to the male occupant of the premises. The 27-year-old was reported for lighting and maintaining a fire during fire danger season. He will appear in court at a later date.

HAY SHED FIRE AT CHARLESTON

Meanwhile, a large hay shed and machinery has been destroyed in a fire at Charleston on Friday afternoon. Crews rushed to the 50 by 50 metre shed on Pfeiffer Road about 1.30pm.

The shed was engulfed by flames when crews arrived, containing it to the shed and saving surrounding properties. The shed, hay and equipment inside were destroyed in the fire with damages estimated at $500,000. The blaze was sparked by fire from an angle grinder inside the shed.

WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN QUAD BIKE CRASH

A woman has been flown to hospital after falling off a quad bike at Nalyappa, south of Moonta, on Thursday night.

The woman was riding along a beach near a camping ground, before she crashed into a clump of seaweed, throwing her from the quad bike just before 9.30pm.

The 24-year-old from the mid-north was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries.

Major Crash Investigators have been advised.

MOTORBIKE RIDER ARRESTED AT SEAFORD MEADOWS

A motorcyclist has been arrested after allegedly attempting to run from police at Seaford Meadows.

The rider, a 31-year-old Morphett Vale man, was spotted by police riding a silver motorbike without licence places on the Esplanade at Christies Beach.

The patrol lost sight of the man, and called on the help of the PolAir police helicopter.

He was seen again on Commercial Road at Seaford Meadows, allegedly travelling at high speeds.

The rider pulled over on Atlantis Avenue, and when he saw police, allegedly ran from the scene and dumped a back pack on Anchor Avenue.

Police cordoned off the area, and arrested the rider.

He was charged with riding at a dangerous speed, riding unregistered, uninsured, riding disqualified and traffic in a controlled drug after police allegedly found a quantity of illicit drugs in the back pack.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

CAR CATCHES FIRE AFTER DOING BURNOUTS

A car has caught fire after the driver was seen performing burnouts at Wingfield on Friday morning.

The caller who phoned police said flames came from underneath the Ford sedan while people were watching.

Two other cars arrived, before the occupants drove away along Wing Street.

Police found the tyres completely alight, and rim and tyre fragments were scattered across the road.

MAN SOUGHT OVER INDECENT ASSAULT AT BLAKEVIEW

Police are hunting a man who indecently assaulted a young woman in a public park in Adelaide’s north last week.

A woman was walking just east of Fleetwood Reserve at Blakeview about 9.30am Monday, March 29, when a man approached her from behind and indecently assaulted her.

Due to the nature of the assault, police have limited details on the suspect who is described as an adult male with a deep voice, tanned skin, muscular build, wearing blue jeans.

DRINK-DRIVER CRASHES INTO STOBIE POLE AT ST MORRIS

An alleged drink-driver will face court after crashing into a Stobie pole at St Morris on Wednesday night.

The 37-year-old Firle man hit the pole on Green Street, after police noticed him driving along Seventh Avenue.

By the time the patrol turned the corner, they found the maroon Mitsubishi had crashed, and the Stobie pole was resting on top of a brick fence.

The man was breath tested and returned an alleged reading of 0.100.

He lost his licence for six months and was reported for aggravated driving without due care and drink-driving.

The man was summonsed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

DRIVER ‘FALLS ASLEEP’ AND CRASHES NEAR PORT PIRIE

A driver is lucky to be alive after he fell asleep before crashing near Port Pirie on Monday morning. The fortunate escape is a timely reminder for motorists in the lead up to the Easter Holiday period, reminding them of the dangers of driving while fatigued, police say.

The 39-year-old Mansfield Park man crashed into lodged trees on the Augusta Highway at Bungama near Port Pirie about 4am Monday.

The driver was treated at the scene by paramedics but only suffered minor injuries.

He told police he fell asleep at the wheel due to having only two hours sleep in 24 hours.

The man was reported for driving without due care and will appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court at a later date.

“This crash is a timely reminder of the dangers of driving while fatigued and with the Easter Holiday period about to start, all motorists are encouraged to take regular rest breaks every two hours when driving long distances,” a police spokesperson said.

DRINK DRIVER CAUGHT AT TRINITY GARDENS

A man caught driving recklessly while he was more than five times over the limit will face court.

A motorist called police after noticing a blue Subaru veering across lanes on Magill Road – with the driver appearing to be falling asleep – about 4.30pm Wednesday.

Patrols searched the area, and found the wanted Subaru in the carpark of a Magill Road takeaway restaurant, with the male driver asleep on the ground next to the vehicle.

The 27-year-old Newton man was breath tested, where he allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.262 – more than five times over the legal limit of 0.05.

The driver was reported for driving under the influence of alcohol, drink driving, and failing to truthfully answer questions, after he denied driving the car.

He lost his licence on the spot for a year, and is car impounded. He will appear in court at a later date.

A police spokesperson said: “This is another glaring example of a selfish driver putting himself and other road users at great risk, when he’s clearly in no condition to drive.”

SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR FELIXSTOW

Police are investigating after students reported being followed by a man on the way to school in Adelaide’s northeast on Wednesday.

The two students were walking through the Felixstow Reserve about 8.25am when they were followed by a man. The man did not speak to the girls, but they felt very uncomfortable and reported it to police when they reached safety.

The man is described as caucasian, wearing a navy hooded jumper with a hood over his head, sunglasses, grey track pants and black sneakers.

MAN WANTED AFTER STEALING HANDBAG AT MARDEN

A man is on the run after stealing a handbag at Marden.

The man allegedly broke-in to the Pitt Street home just after 4.30am on Wednesday morning, demanding keys to a car before fleeing on foot with a handbag.

The thief is being described as a caucasian male in his 30s, about 173cm tall with a slim build and wearing a black hooded jumper.

Police Dog Bandit searched the area and found the victim’s handbag in the front yard of a home on nearby Wear Ave.

TUESDAY, MARCH 30

MAN ARRESTED FOR FIREARMS INCIDENT ON THE EYRE PENINSULA

A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening another man with a gun before firing near the victim’s dog on a busy Eyre Peninsula highway on Monday.

The incident happened on the Flinders Highway at Sheringa about 7.50pm Monday. A man was being threatened by another man holding a gun, before the suspect allegedly fired several shots near the victim’s dog.

A woman – the male suspect’s partner – verbally threatened the victim.

No-one was injured and the male and female left the scene.

Police with STAR officers attended the scene and searched for the suspect pair, who were located camping on the beach at Sheringa.

They were arrested at 9am Tuesday without incident.

A 58-year-old Victorian man and a 43-year-old Victorian woman will face numerous charges and are expected to appear in the Port Lincoln Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

WOMAN CRASHES: 7 TIMES OVER WITH KIDS IN HER CAR

An SA woman has been caught allegedly driving more than seven times over the limit with children on board.

Swan Reach police caught the extremely high-range drink driver at Nildottie, a town on the Murray about 100km east of Adelaide, on Monday afternoon after responding to a crash.

Police were called to Johns Road after reports a Holden sedan had left the road and crashed into a tree, Just before 5pm.

When police arrived they breath tested the driver, a 47-year-old local woman, and were shocked when she allegedly returned a positive result of 0.365. Police say what was even more shocking was there were three passengers in the car, two being children.

There were no serious injuries and the woman was reported for drink driving and aggravated driving without due care.

She lost her licence on the spot for 12 months and her car was impounded for 28 days. She will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

MONDAY, MARCH 29

MAN CHARGED AFTER MCLAREN VALE CRASH

A man has been charged after a serious crash at McLaren Vale that left one woman fighting for life and six others injured on Sunday night.

A black Subaru travelling west at the intersection of Main Road and McMurtrie Road crashed into a Nissan Pulsar which was travelling south, as well as a grey Subaru travelling north at about 5.40pm Sunday. A passenger in the Pulsar, a 60-year-old Willunga woman, was flown to the Flinders Medical Centre where she remains in a critical condition.

Six others involved in the crash were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The intersection was closed for several hours while Major Crash Investigators examined the scene. The driver of the black Subaru, a 56-year-old Whyalla man, was arrested and charged with causing harm by dangerous driving and driving without due care on Monday.

He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in June.

MAN STRUCK BY TRAIN AT PORT AUGUSTA WEST

A man has been seriously injured after being struck by a train at Port Augusta West on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened at a rail bridge near Red Cliffs Loop Road about 2.20pm, with emergency crews rushing to the scene after reports a man was struck by a train.

A 34-year-old local man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A police spokeswoman said they do not believe the incident was attempted suicide.

Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
