A family made a miraculous escape after their car burst into flames while driving up Willunga Hill on Thursday afternoon.

The silver Commodore erupted just after noon while driving up Willunga Hill, with fire crews rushing to the scene.

A witness, Diane Oakley, was a passenger in a vehicle that drove past the car as it was on fire.

“It looked like the people had all packed up to go away for Easter,” Ms Oakley said.

“Even in just the few seconds we were going past … I couldn’t believe how quickly it had engulfed.”

The Mount Compass woman said it was lucky no-one was injured.

“It was scary, I could feel the heat coming through the car as we drove past.”

There were no reported injuries in the blaze.

A CFS spokesman said the fire that started inside the car spread to nearby grass but was contained within minutes.

It comes a day after a woman escaped serious injuries in a horror crash near Victor Harbor on Wednesday afternoon.

The Ford lost control, clipping an oncoming car before rolling and crashing into a tree on Inman Valley Road at Inman Valley about 3pm.

The driver of the Ford, a 37-year-old Christie Downs woman, was trapped in the upturned car for “some time” before fire crews were able to cut her from the wrecked car.

She was treated at the scene before being flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Inman Valley Road was closed between Sawpit Road and Back Valley Road while crews attended to the scene, but it reopened about 5.30pm.

It comes after motorists walked away with minor injuries after a two-car crash that caused a car to flip at Cleland last week.

Vision captured the aftermath of a crash that happened on Greenhill Road about 8pm, Monday, March 23. No serious injuries were reported in the crash.

Numerous other people were killed in other road crashes in March, including four on a long weekend and four in the Barossa Valley in as many days.
