A man has been arrested and charged over a crash on a private property at the Riverland this month, which killed a 26-year-old man.

FRIDAY, MARCH 26

MAN CHARGED OVER RIVERLAND FATAL CRASH

A man has been arrested and charged following a crash on a Riverland property that killed a 26-year-old man earlier this month.

The crash happened on Saturday March 6, about 6pm, at a private property on Wonga Road at Lindley near Morgan. Paramedics rushed to the property after a ute crashed and rolled.

A passenger in the vehicle, the 26-year-old Campbelltown man, died at the scene.

The driver, a 29-year-old Rostrevor man, with two other passengers, a 34-year-old Tanunda man and a 29-year-old Klemzig man, were flown to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Major Crash Investigators arrested the driver on Friday following an investigation, and charged him with causing death by dangerous driving, and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was bailed to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court in May.

The death was followed by a deplorable weekend on South Australian roads, where three other people lost their lives. The crashes included a double fatality in the Far North, where a 23-year-old from the ACT and a 57-year-old from Para Vista died in a horror crash between a truck and a car.

DRINK-DRIVER BLOWS MORE THAN SIX TIMES OVER AT CEDUNA

A man who was swerving on a Ceduna street has been caught at more than six times the legal blood alcohol limit, police say.

The 35-year-old local man was spotted by police not wearing a seatbelt while driving down McKenzie Street.

Police followed the Holden Jackaroo as it swerved over the road, stopping in the carpark of a local hotel.

The driver was breath tested, returning a reading of 0.310.

His car was found to be unregistered and uninsured, and he did not have a driver’s licence.

The vehicle was also defected due to major safety concerns.

The man was reported for drink driving, driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, driving unlicensed and failing to wear a seatbelt.

He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

THURSDAY, MARCH 25

MAN ALLEGEDLY SETS FIRE TO STOLEN CAR

A man’s been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a stolen car at West Lakes Shore overnight.

Witnesses reported seeing a man set fire to the blue Toyota sedan in the carpark of a hotel on Bartley Terrace about 3.30am Thursday.

Police arrested a man matching the description of the suspect nearby.

The Toyota had been stolen from the area during a break-in earlier the same night.

A 31-year-old of no fixed address will face charges of arson and going equipped to commit an offence.

Investigations are continuing into where the break-in and car theft occurred.

The suspect was refused bail to appear in court today.

WOMAN HIT BY POLICE CAR AT NORWOOD

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital after she was hit by a police car at Norwood on Thursday.

FIRE AT MAGILL SHOPS

A fire that broke out in a group of shops at Magill has caused significant damage.

Crews rushed to a block of shops on Magill Road just after midnight Thursday and found a shed connected to a fruit and veg shop alight.

Firefighters took an hour to contain the blaze which caused minor damages to the fruit and veg shop and butcher. The blaze was thought to be sparked by a failed compressor to a cool room. Damages were estimated at $150,000.

A smoke warning was issued in the area, and people were advised not to open doors and windows.

DRUGS AND WEAPONS FOUND IN PT PIRIE RAID

A man has been arrested after drugs, knives and an unregistered gel blaster were found in a Port Pirie raid on Wednesday.

Police searched a home on Wilkins Street at Solomontown about 1.45pm when they discovered three cannabis plants, two unregistered and unsecured gel blasters, drug paraphernalia, prescription medication, methamphetamine and prohibited knives.

A 51-year-old man was arrested and charged with cultivating cannabis, trafficking a controlled drug, possessing an unregistered firearm without a licence, possessing prescription medication and possessing prohibited weapons.

He was bailed to appear in Port Pirie Magistrates Court at a later date.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24

ST MARYS SERIOUS CRASH

Traffic has cleared following a serious crash at St Mary’s on Wednesday, after a cyclist and car collided. The crash happened about 4pm on Ayliffes Road near South Road.

The cyclist, a 67-year-old Eden Hills man sustained serious injuries. He was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre where he remains in a stable condition.

The on ramp road from South Road to Ayliffes Road was closed for several hours while Major Crash Officers investigated the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the crash should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

PROTESTERS TO DISRUPT TRAFFIC

Extinction Rebellion protesters are embarking on a dancing march through the Adelaide CBD, disrupting busy intersections in peak hour traffic.

The group of about 100 people will stop in the middle of major intersections in the city’s east for five minutes at a time while dancing to the Bee Gees’ hit Stayin’ Alive.

The group’s spokesman Ben Brooker did not rule out people gluing themselves to the ground, as occurred as a recent protest outside the Santos building in Flinders Street.

GROW HOUSE SPARKS BLAZE AT UNDERDALE

A man has been arrested after an electrical fault in a drug grow room sparked a blaze at Underdale overnight.

Neighbours reported smoke coming from a house on Garden Terrace about 1.15am Wednesday, with police and firefighters rushing to the scene.

When crews arrived they found fire in a spare bedroom and smoke logging through the rest of the home. The fire was controlled in 30 minutes, causing $120,000 damage to the rental property. Firefighters deemed the fires cause accidental, as a result of an electrical overload.

Police examined the scene and say the fire was sparked by a small hydroponic set up.

The resident, a 53-year-old man, was arrested and charged with cultivating cannabis.

He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in June.

A woman has died after her car rolled in a crash at Tanunda overnight – the fourth person to die in road crashes in as many days in the region.

MAN, 19, SERIOUSLY INJURED IN CRASH NEAR MALLALA

A 19-year-old man has been seriously injured after his car rolled near Mallala overnight.

The crash happened when a Commodore travelling southeast on Calomba Road at Calomba left the road surface, rolling “several times”.

Paramedics treated the 19-year-old Adelaide Plains man at the scene before he was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious head and chest injuries.

Two Wells and Mallala police attended the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

DELAYS ON THE SE FREEWAY

City bound motorists on the South Eastern Freeway saw heavy delays on their morning commute earlier today after a crash at Stirling.

Just after 7am a car smashed into the back of a truck before the Crafers Bridge on the down track.

The left lane was closed to motorists near the crash, and speeds were down to 40km/h while tows were arranged. The crash has now cleared with no further delays expected.

No-one was reported injured.

TEEN ARRESTED FOR TRESPASSING AT SEAFORD MEADOWS

A teenager has been arrested after allegedly trespassing at a Seaford Meadows property overnight.

An occupant of a Navigation Street home was alerted to a prowler in his yard about 3am Tuesday. When police arrived they saw the suspect run away and jump over a fence.

Police Dog Stoic, with patrols cordoning the area, found the suspect in a nearby backyard.

The 17-year-old Morphett Vale man was arrested and charged with two counts of being unlawfully on premises and hindering police. He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court in May.

MONDAY, MARCH 22

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG AND FIREARM HAUL

A traffic stop at a Fulham Gardens car park led to the discovery of drugs, firearms and a stolen car, along with the arrests of three people, police say.

Police searched the Holden Commodore on Friday evening, finding 45 litres of fantasy at about 5pm.

After discovering the fantasy, a Morphett Vale address was searched.

A clandestine drug laboratory, three firearms and about 150 grams of methamphetamine were found, as well as a stolen vehicle.

Three people, a 38-year-old man and 29-year-old woman, both from Morphett Vale and a 29-year-old man from Torrens Park were arrested and charged with three counts of trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug, taking part in the manufacture of a controlled drug and possessing a prescribed firearms.

The Holden and the stolen vehicle have been seized and will be examined.

All three suspects fronted the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday and will remain in custody, to reappear in August.

MAN CAUGHT AND CHARGED OVER 29 BREAK-INS

A man alleged to have broken into 29 businesses over the past year will face court charged with 50 counts of theft and trespassing.

SUNDAY, MARCH 21

SERIOUS ASSAULT IN NORTHERN SUBURBS

A good Samaritan has been seriously injured after he reportedly tried to break up an altercation at Salisbury North.

Police said initial reports are that about 5.15pm on Sunday the man had attempted to intervene

in a dispute between a man and a woman.

He was allegedly assaulted by the man who left the scene on a motorcycle with the woman.
The injured man was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital were he is being treated for serious head injuries.

Police said detectives are following positive lines of inquiries to locate the offender.

TEEN GIRLS ARRESTED OVER CITY STABBING

Two teenage girls have been arrested after a Hindley Street convenience store worker was stabbed.

The girls were disturbed by the employee in a back room of the shop after 1am on Sunday.

One of the girls allegedly stabbed the worker in the back before both fled the scene.

The man was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital and treated for a minor stab wound.

One of the teens was arrested nearby a short time after.

The second girl was found hiding in the bathroom of a nearby business.

A 15-year-old Auldana girl and a 16-year-old from Cumberland Park were charged with assault causing serious harm.

No decision has been made regarding bail.
