SATURDAY, JULY 10

VICTIM DIES FOLLOWING HIT-RUN

A 70-year-old pedestrian has died after he was involved in a hit-run crash in the city’s inner south last month.

Just before 10pm on Wednesday June 30, emergency services were called to Goodwood Road at Goodwood after a car struck the man, then drove off.

The victim, from Goodwood, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition. On Friday night, he died of his injuries.

Following the crash, police arrested and charged a 29-year-old Cumberland Park woman with causing harm by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of a collision after causing harm.

Those charges will now be upgraded to causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of a fatal collision.

The woman has been bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on September 8.

WOMEN KILLED IN KINGSTON CRASH

A woman has died and two others are in hospital following a crash in the state’s South East this morning.

Just after 7.30am, police and emergency crews were called to the intersection of Princes Highway and Southern Ports Highway at Kingston SE after a Toyota sedan crashed into a creek.

Police said the car was travelling west along Princes Highway, drove through the junction of Southern Ports Highway, entered a reserve then crashed into the nearby Maria Creek.

THREE-CAR CRASH AT HINDMARSH

Three cars were involved in a crash at Hindmarsh early Saturday morning.

Just before 4am, police and emergency services were called to the intersection of Port Road and South Road after a Mazda sedan travelling south along South Road crashed into a Toyota sedan, which was travelling east on Port Road.

The Mazda then crashed into a Hyundai sedan travelling west on Port Road.

The driver and only occupant of the Mazda, a 26-year-old Allenby Gardens man, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 22-year-old from Mawson Lakes, and his three passengers, a 23-year-old man and two 22-year-old men, were also taken to hospital.

The driver and only occupant of the Toyota, a 21-year-old Magill man, was treated at the scene by paramedics.

All three cars were towed from the scene, and investigations are underway into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

CASH STOLEN IN HOTEL HOLD-UP

Cash was stolen during an aggravated robbery at a hotel south of the city on Friday night.

Just before 7pm, police were called to the Aussie Inn on Main South Road at Hackham following reports of a hold-up.

A man armed with a knife had allegedly entered and threatened staff before making off with cash. No one was injured in the incident.

Police are still searching for the suspect, who was wearing black pants and a navy jacket with a red badge on each shoulder. He was wearing black sneakers with white soles, and appeared to have blonde hair and a beard.

DRIVER OVER THE LIMIT AFTER CRASH

A disqualified and drunk driver has been reported after a crash in a northern suburbs car park on Friday night.

Just after 8pm, police were called to a shopping centre on Ann Street at Salisbury after a Mazda SUV crashed into a delivery truck.

The driver of the Mazda, a 36-year-old Elizabeth Vale man, allegedly returned a blood alcohol content reading of 0.257 following the crash - more than five times the legal limit.

He has been reported for drink driving and driving disqualified, and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

The man, who was not injured in the crash, was also issued with a further 12-month licence disqualification.

The truck driver, a 38-year-old Hillbank man, also avoided injury in the collision.

FRIDAY, JULY 9

UNREGISTERED GEL BLASTERS TAKEN BY POLICE

Eight gel blasters have been seized by police this week after searching two homes.

Officers visited a Waterloo Corner property where a man was warned in October that he would need to comply with new rules about licencing and registration.

They this week found seven unregistered gel blasters.

The 44-year-old will be summonsed to court at a later date.

Another property at Millicent was searched on Monday, where police found an unregistered gel blaster.

The 53-year-old male owner was reported.

Gel blasters were last year deemed Category A paintball firearms, meaning owners need to be licenced and have the gel blasters registered.

Officer in charge of the firearms branch, Superintendent Billy Thompson, said there would be “consequences” for people found with unregistered gel blasters.

“Gel blaster firearms owners had six months to get their license and get their gel blaster firearms registered to ensure they were complying with the new rules,” Supt Thompson said.

Unregistered gel blasters can be legally surrendered to police under a current firearms amnesty.


SUSPECTED COPPER THIEF BUSTED

An alleged Murray Bridge copper thief has been arrested after police found a mass of wire at his house.

They visited his home with a search warrant on Thursday night after a tip-off.

Police found a “substantial quantity” of copper wire which is believed to have been stolen from multiple places in Murray Bridge.

The 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged with unlawful possession.

He was refused bail.

STOLEN CAR TORCHED

A stolen car was torched north of the CBD on Friday morning.

Just after 5am, police and fire crews were called to a parking area on Days Road at Regency Park following reports of a car fire.

The Holden Captiva SUV, which was completely destroyed by the fire, had been stolen from the driveway of a Broadview home on Wednesday.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity around the area is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

GO-KART STOLEN FROM POORAKA

A go-kart was stolen during a brazen break-in at a northern suburbs business this week.

Just before 1.30am Monday, a man driving a grey/silver Mazda sedan broke into a premises on Maxwell Road at Pooraka.

Once inside, he accessed a secure container in an adjoining premises and stole the go-kart.

About 1.55am, he left the property with the go-kart strapped to the roof of the Mazda. He headed west on Maxwell Road toward Main North Road.

The kart is described as “one of a kind”, with a grey frame, black handlebars and a number eight on the front.

THURSDAY, JULY 8

HAUL OF SUSPECTED STOLEN JEWELLERY UNCOVERED

A staggering amount of suspected stolen jewellery has been uncovered in a police raid.

Police searched a Kapunda home late last month following an investigation.

The uncovered the pile of jewellery, which included watches, rings, bangles and necklaces.

A 44-year-old man was arrested days later and charged with unlawful possession.

DISQUALIFIED DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER POLICE PURSUIT

A disqualified driver has been arrested after allegedly crashing her car twice in a police pursuit at Croydon Park.

Police spotted the red Holden Commodore on Regency Rd about 3.45am Thursday, and tried to speak to the driver, but the car sped off.

The vehicle lost control, and crashed into the traffic light at the intersection of Days Rd and Regency Rd.

The police officer tried to remove the driver from the car, but suffered minor injuries to his hand, and could not prevent the car from leaving the scene.

The driver continued along Days Rd, before turning on to Gray St and crashing into a tree.

An Adelaide woman, 23, who was driving the car was arrested.

She was treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for minor injuries, and has been charged with driving disqualified, unregistered, driving with stolen number plates, driving in a manner dangerous to the public, dangerous driving to escape police and possessing prescription medication.
She was refused bail, to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The car was towed from the scene.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER PURSUIT

A man driving a stolen car has been arrested after leading police on a pursuit through Adelaide’s north and south.

Police saw the stolen black Holden on Fredrick Rd at Seaton just after midnight Thursday, and directed the driver to stop.

The car continued, heading north before turning into Glenburnie St.

Officers pursued the car through the backstreets of Seaton, before it was lost around West Lakes Boulevard.

The police helicopter spotted it again driving north on Tapleys Hill Rd, about 30 minutes later.

It was followed to the northern suburbs, and was successfully spiked on Shepherdson Rd.

The driver abandoned the car in Alwyn St Salisbury, and fled on foot, but police dog Stoic tracked him nearby.

The car was stolen from a break-in at St Clair on June 27.

Police say the man also stole petrol from a service station at Woodville Park during the incident.

The Maylands man, 29, was charged with failing to stop for police, illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving disqualified, breaching bail and petrol theft.

He was refused bail to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.

POLICE HUNT WANTED MAN NATHAN PEDLER

A wanted remains on the run as police appeal for public assistance in locating him.

Nathan Pedler, 38, is wanted for breaching his bail conditions.

He is described as caucasian, about 168cm tall, 89kg, with a muscular build and short blond hair.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Pedler should call the police assistance line on 131 444.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 7

MAN ARRESTED WITH STOLEN PLATES

A man allegedly driving a car with stolen number plates has been arrested after leading police on a foot chase at Plympton.

Police saw the car parked off Anzac Highway with stolen plates about 1.25am Wednesday.

When officers tried to speak to the driver he ran from the car, but was arrested nearby after a short foot chase.

A second set of stolen number plates were found while searching the car.

They had been stolen on Monday July 5 from Edwardstown and South Brighton.

An Edwardstown man, 30, was arrested and charged with hindering police and unlawful possession. He also had outstanding warrants, and was refused police bail, to appear in court on Wednesday.

TUESDAY, JULY 6

STABBING AT CHRISTIE DOWNS

One person has been stabbed and another assaulted in a brawl at Christie Downs.

The fight, between a group of people, broke out near the Southern Districts Baseball Club at about 5.15pm.

SPEEDING P-PLATER LOSES LICENCE

A P-plate driver has lost her licence and has been handed a whopping fine in the Barossa Valley.

Police detected the car travelling 173km/h in a 110km/h zone about 9.15pm Monday on the Sturt Highway at Greenock.

The driver, 19, of Elizabeth North, was stopped, and issued a $2295 fine for exceeding the speed limit and breaching conditions of her licence. She lost her licence for six months.

CACHE OF STOLEN GOODS FOUND AT ST MARYS

Two people have been arrested after police found a cache of stolen goods including a car and firearm at St Marys.

Police responded to reports of a man and woman arguing in a backstreet about 12.30am Tuesday, next to a BMW and Range Rover.

The man ran off when he noticed police but was arrested nearby.

On searching the man, officers allegedly found keys belonging to the Range Rover, which had been stolen from a break-in at Chandlers Hill on Sunday.

An Audi was also stolen in the same break-in, as well as a firearm, which was located in the boot of the BMW.

Officers raided a nearby home and found the stolen firearm, along with the key to the stolen Audi and numerous sets of number plates and power tools believed to be stolen.

The BMW was also searched, and police allegedly found stolen identification and a shotgun – which had been stolen from a break-in at Sellicks Hill last month.

A number of other items believed to be stolen were allegedly found in the car including sets of number plates and power tools.

A Morphett Vale woman, 30, and a Hackham West man, 40, were arrested and are currently being questioned by police.

Investigations are continuing.

MONDAY, JULY 5

TEENAGER ARRESTED OVER VIOLENT CARJACKINGS

A teenager ran from police on Monday as they tried to arrest him for two recent carjackings.

The 19-year-old Kilburn man allegedly assaulted a taxi driver and stole his car on King William Rd in North Adelaide on June 5, later dumping it on Prospect Rd.

He also allegedly assaulted a food delivery driver in Northcote St, Kilburn, on June 22, and stole his Nissan Pulsar.

The car was involved in a crash at the intersection of Main North Rd and Regency Rd and the man ran from the scene.

Police set up cordons after the man fled a Kilburn home they visited on Monday, finding him hiding in the backyard of a Stevens Ave home.

The teenager has been charged with assault, illegal use, driving without due care, driving unlicensed, failing to stop at a crash and being unlawfully on premises.

He was refused bail.

HOUSE FIRE AT EDWARDSTOWN

A house has been significantly damaged following a fire south of the city on Sunday night.

About 8.30pm, police and fire crews responded to a blaze on Maxwell Ave at Edwardstown.

They extinguished the fire and managed to stop it from spreading to neighbouring properties, however there was already significant damage. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The MFS said the damage bill totalled $150,000, and firefighters were able to fully extinguish the blaze within an hour.

Fire cause investigators attended, and anyone who saw or heard suspicious activity in the street is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

SUNDAY, JULY 4

HIT-RUN CRASH AT MURRAY BRIDGE

A driver has been detained after hitting a pedestrian and fleeing the scene at Murray Bridge.

A white Nissan utility crashed into the woman on Joy Crescent about 9.45pm Saturday before leaving the scene.

The victim, 26, was treated by paramedics before being taken to the local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Less than an hour later police found the Nissan on Joy Crescent and spoke to the driver, a Murray Bridge man, 32.

He was detained under the Mental Health Act, and is expected to be reported for driving without due care.

His car was towed from the scene.

Hours later, a gold Mitsubishi was found in the middle of the road surrounded by debris on nearby Maurice Rd, about 2.45am.

Police say the driver failed to make a bend in the road and hit a kerb before crashing into a tree. The car was destroyed on impact.

The driver, a Murray Bridge man, 37, was take to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

He is expected to be charged with driving offences.
