In August 2022, SA Police formally tendered no evidence against Mr Casey and the charges were dismissed by the Adelaide Magistrates Court.

A man allegedly caught with a cache of extremist material and weapons used surveillance devices to covertly record police and publicly release their conversations, a court has heard.

Paul Harold Casey, 48, of Salisbury North, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday following his arrest in May last year.

Mr Casey has yet to plead to one count of being in possession of extremist material at Salisbury Downs on June 13, 2020.

He is further accused of having used a listening device to record a private conversation of which he was not a party.

It is further alleged Mr Casey published or disclosed material obtained, by use of a surveillance device, from that private conversation.

He is also charged with two counts of possessing or using a dangerous article, and with using or having possession of both a prohibited weapon and body armour.

SA Police allege Mr Casey is a member of or affiliated with a Victorian-based right-wing extremist organisation.

In court documents, they allege he used CCTV to record officers and then published the content of their conversation on the social media page of that extremist group.

It is further alleged Mr Casey was in possession of a taser, an extendible baton, a knuckle duster and a “plain catapult” – also known as a slingshot – and body armour.

His case is one of several matters linked to alleged extremism that have come before the courts following raids around SA in April last year.

Patrick Patmore, 32, of Salisbury East, and Anthony Paul Dobson, 23, of Dudley Park, are still facing ongoing prosecutions before the courts.

Justin Bassett, 28, of Surrey Downs, was fined and spared a conviction after pleading guilty to possessing extremist materials.

On Tuesday, Mr Casey’s matter was called on in court two hours before its scheduled listing, and he was remanded on continuing bail until later this year.
