Prosecutors file second rape charge against Ying Hui Yu over alleged incident involving teenager undergoing medical examination

The case against this man – already accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl – has increased in seriousness in court.

A man already accused of sexually and indecently assaulting a teenager undergoing medical treatment has been charged with a second count of rape.

On Tuesday, prosecutors said they had finalised their case against Ying Hui Yu – and that there had been no negotiations with his counsel.

Mr Yu, 62, was arrested in January and charged with one count each of rape and indecent assault.

SA Police alleged he had sexually assaulted a teenage girl during a medical examination at a clinic – the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is also investigating.

On Tuesday, prosecutors filed a revised set of documents with the court, formalising their case.

Those documents charge Mr Yu with an additional count of engaging in sexual intercourse without consent, allegedly committed against the same person on the same day.

A prosecutor told the court that the case against Mr Yu would proceed on those three charges.

“We are happy for the committal process to start, and confirm there have been no negotiations with defence counsel,” she said.

Mr Yu’s lawyer asked his client’s bail be varied to permit him to travel to NSW next month for personal reasons, noting he had already surrendered his passport.

Magistrate Simon Smart approved Mr Yu’s travel and remanded him on continuing bail to answer the charges in October.
