Police are investigating an incident on the Seaford line after a couple was caught appearing to have sex aboard a commuter train in a video posted to social media on Tuesday night.
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport told The Advertiser that the incident had been referred to SA Police to investigate the “inappropriate behaviour”.
A SAPOL spokesperson said police were “examining the video and will attempt to identify the people so that appropriate action can be taken to prevent offensive acts occurring in public view.”
“It is an offence to have sex in a public place as this may be offensive to other people who are present,” they said.
SAPOL has asked witnesses or those with information regarding the couple’s identities to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The act reportedly took place on Tuesday night with a woman appearing to straddle a man’s lap while bouncing up and down with her back towards the person recording.
The man’s legs can be seen spread out in the aisle as the camera zooms in, unnoticed by the couple.
The couple was captured on camera by a shocked commuter, who shared the footage to social media, with one person saying they “never” wanted to take public transport again after watching the clip.
The video was reposted by popular Adelaide meme account, @shitadelaide, which has over 158,000 followers on Instagram and captioned: “Just an average Tuesday night on the Seaford line.”
Followers of the page took to the comments to share their disgust and humour over the indecent act.
“New meaning to getting railed,” said one.
Another tagged the official Adelaide Metro account saying they “might want to do some deep cleaning.”
A third jokingly came to the couple’s defence saying “the lighting and general atmos in the Adelaide trains are pretty irresistably romantic.”
