Two people have been arrested after they were filmed allegedly doing burnouts and producing pink smoke for the gender reveal of a baby at Lonsdale last weekend.

The footage shows two hoon drivers on Sigma St, creating a cloud of pink smoke in their car while driving recklessly.

On Wednesday, police arrested a 49-year-old Reynella man, charging him with driving a motor vehicle with an obscured number plate, misusing a motor vehicle and driving in a dangerous manner. His Ford sedan was impounded for 28 days.

The following day, a 35-year-old Morphettville man was arrested and charged with driving disqualified, misusing a motor vehicle and driving in a dangerous manner. His black Holden was also impounded for 28 days.

Both men were bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police announced they had launched an investigation into the burnout after the video of the incident was circulating on Monday.

Superintendent Bob Gray, the officer in charge of the Traffic Services Branch, said: “The simple fact is, this kind of stupid, irresponsible behaviour could have killed someone.”

“As prospective parents, you would hope these people would know better. It could be their child who is one day impacted by dangerous driving, and I wouldn’t wish that on any family.”

In a second southern suburbs hooning incident, a maroon Nissan patrol was seen trying to drive at speed up a step embankment, embankment, spraying dirt and debris on the road on Lander Road at Sheidow Park on Tuesday. The four-wheel-drive did a burnout before driving off.

A 19-year-old Woodcroft man was reported on Wednesday for misusing a motor vehicle and driving in a dangerous manner. His car was impounded for 28 days and the driver will appear at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court at a later date.

It comes after shocking footage emerged of a motorcyclist speeding at 200km/h in Dry Creek earlier this year, prompting a call from the state’s Police Commissioner for harsher penalties on hoon drivers.

Grant Stevens has held talks with Attorney-General Vickie Chapman to discuss the harsher penalties.

Mr Stevens said hoon drivers should be treated more like criminals than road traffic offenders.
