A man has died after his car smashed into a bridge support in Adelaide’s outer northern suburbs, CCTV shows.
Major Crash officers are investigating the serious incident after the silver Mitsubishi crashed under a bridge near the old Holden factory.
Police and emergency services were called to Purling Ave, Edinburgh, just after 6.20am on Monday.
CCTV footage seen by The Advertiser shows a silver car travelling along the dirt shoulder on the wrong side of the road before it crashes into the bridge’s support structure.
The SUV sustained shocking damage in the impact.
Major Crash investigators have examined the destroyed vehicle at the scene.
Police said the driver and sole occupant, a 53-year-old North Haven man, died at the scene.
One staff member at a nearby business said cars frequently sped along Purling Ave.
Road closures were in place but are now lifted.
The man’s death is the 79th life lost on South Australian roads this year.
It comes after a 71-year-old woman, identified as Jennifer, died on Saturday night when she was struck by a car on Port Rd at Queenstown.
