ELDERLY PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER BEING HIT AT WEST CROYDON

A 90-year-old male pedestrian hasdied in hospital after he was struck by a car at West Croydon on Friday afternoon.
The man was hit by a Kia SUV at 2.30pm on Port Road near Minnie Street.

The man was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries but died on Friday evening.

The driver of the car, a 48-year-old Croydon man was not injured.

Major Crash Investigators attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision.

Local roads were closed but have since been re-opened.

Anyone who saw the incident, or may have recorded it via a dashcam, has been asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The man’s death takes the number of lives lost on SA roads this year to 71 compared with 64 at the same time in 2020.

GO-KART DRIVER REPORTED FOR DRINK DRIVING

A 37-year-old man in a go-kart has been reported by police for a string of offences, including drink driving.

The Surrey Downs man was pulled over after the SA Police helicopter spotted a go-kart driving along the Little Para River at Salisbury Heights, before turning onto the Philip Highway.

The PolAir crew tracked the driver through several streets before he was finally pulled over by ground patrols on Barnett St, Salisbury.

Police breath tested the man, who allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.047.

The man was unlicenced. Unlicenced drivers are subject to zero blood alcohol conditions.

He was also drug tested and allegedly tested positive for cannabis.

The man was reported for drink driving, driving while unregistered, unlicenced and uninsured.

He will be summonsed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.

He is also facing possible drug driving charges, pending further analysis of the drug test sample. His go-kart was impounded for 28 days.

STOLEN VINTAGE MONARO FOUND

A classic Holden Monaro worth over $200,000 stolen from a Newton driveway on Monday has been found.

After an extensive search, and with the help of sightings posted to social media, the 1969 HK Monaro GTS, registration RBD144, was found abandoned on Melbourne Rd at Salisbury Heights.

The car was retrieved by police about 9.15pm on Thursday night, and taken to the Ottoway police compound for forensic examination.

It was stolen from the Newton address between 9.15am and 1.40pm on Monday.

BANNED PORT AUGUSTA DRIVER BLOWS MORE THAN SIX TIMES LIMIT

A man has blown more than six times the legal limit after being stopped at Port Augusta early Friday morning.

Just after 1.30am, police stopped a man driving with four passengers on Fulham Rd.

He was submitted to a breath test and allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.308.

Checks on the driver’s licence status revealed he not only was disqualified from driving but had never held a licence.

A 26-year-old man from Port Augusta was reported for drink driving, driving while disqualified and driving while unauthorised.

The driver was issued with an immediate loss of licence for 12 months and the vehicle was impounded for 28 days. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

POLICE SEARCH FOR HANDBAG SNATCHER
A woman has had her handbag snatched at Glenelg, just after withdrawing cash from a bank.

Just before 3pm on Friday, September 10, the victim attended a bank on Jetty Rd.

After withdrawing money, the woman placed the cash in her handbag and left the bank.

As she walked away, a man (pictured below) allegedly came up behind her and snatched her handbag, before running away north on Rose St. The victim was not physically injured.

The suspect described as caucasian, about 180cm tall, about 20-30 years old, dark brown hair, slim build and wearing black t-shirt with a logo on the front.

TWO COP CARS RAMMED

A driver is on the run after ramming two patrol cars while fleeing a Semaphore Park drug raid.

Acting on information from the public, police searched the Bower Rd home about 4pm Tuesday and allegedly uncovered methamphetamine, cannabis, fantasy and other evidence of drug trafficking.

The occupant returned home during the raid.

An officer had to smash the driver’s side window to try to gain entry but the man drove off, crashing into two parked police cars, causing significant damage to one.

The black, 2006 Audi A6 sedan has an SA registration S566BYL, and the driver is known to police.

TWO ARRESTED OVER ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

A man and a teenage girl have been charged after a police officer and security guard were allegedly assaulted in an attempted robbery at Greenacres Shopping Centre.

The pair were reportedly attempting to steal alcohol from a Liquorland about 4.15pm Tuesday.

When a male security guard approached the pair, he was allegedly assaulted, before being taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The 21-year-old man and 17-year-old girl, both of Camden Park, were arrested and charged with theft, assault, disorderly behaviour and assault police.

The police officer received minor injuries and did not need medical attention.

The man was bailed to appear in court at a later date, while the girl was refused bail, to appear on Thursday.

DRIVER FLED SERIOUS CRASH

A driver involved in a serious crash at Elizabeth North, which left a man hospitalised, is wanted by police after she allegedly fled the scene.

The woman was driving a Holden ute which collided with a Ford Falcon at the intersection of Woodford and Main North roads about 7pm on Tuesday.

Police say she left the scene on foot, leaving the passenger, who had serious injuries, in the car.

The 42-year-old Blakeview man was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where his condition is not life-threatening.

Police Dog Jax and his handler were unable to find the driver.

The sole occupant of the Ford was a 30-year-old Lyndoch man.

Major Crash investigators attended the scene, but have since delegated the matter to local police.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

MAN STABBED AT COORONG PUB

Police are investigating a stabbing and serious assault in the Coorong early Tuesday morning.

Just after 3am, police and paramedics were called to the Coorong Hotel at Policeman’s Point on the Princes Highway, after reports of a violent altercation between two men.

When emergency services arrived they found the victim with stab wounds to his body. He was taken to the RAH with serious injuries.

The suspect had left the scene but police arrested him just before 8.30am at a Coorong address, and was been taken to the Murray Bridge police station.

The 20-year-old, from the Coorong was later charged with attempted murder and refused bail.

He will face court at a later date.

SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR AT HINDMARSH ISLAND

Police are investigating reports of suspicious activity after two girls were approached by a driver in Hindmarsh Island at the weekend.

Just before noon on Sunday, two girls were walking on Princess Royal Parade when they were approached by a white Toyota Hilux.

The girls reported that the male driver had leant across the female passenger and yelled at them through the passenger window. The girls ran away and were not physically harmed.

The driver is described as caucasian, aged in his late 40s, chubby build, bald head with facial stubble. The passenger is described as having scraggly orange hair and wearing a bluish floral top/dress. The car is described as “newish” white Toyota Hilux with a dark canopy or cover.

RED FORD STOLEN AT PROSPECT

Police are investigating the theft of a Ford sedan from Prospect last month.

Sometime between noon on Friday, August 20 and 10.30am on Sunday, August 22, a red 2008 Ford XR6 sedan with personalised plates HOTXR6T and black mag wheels was stolen from an underground car park of a unit complex on Churchill Rd.

DEATH AT GLEN EWIN ESTATE

An elderly man has died in a fire at a Hills cellar door and functions venue.

Police, paramedics and State Emergency Services crews rushed to Glen Ewin Estate in Houghton after reports a man had suffered serious burns about 5.20pm Monday.

COUNCIL STAFF INJURED IN TRUCK ROLLOVER

Emergency services were called to the scene of a serious truck rollover on Moores Rd, Cherryville.

Police and paramedics were called early Monday afternoon, after reports of a truck rolling down an embankment.

The vehicle carried two passengers, who have been confirmed as Adelaide Hills Council staff members.

“Council can confirm that the driver and passenger were able to walk away from the vehicle but have been taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for more comprehensive assessment and monitoring,” the council’s director of infrastructure and operations, Peter Bice, said.

“Council will be conducting a full investigation and our focus is on supporting the Adelaide Hills staff involved and their families.”

BOYS CHARGED OVER STOLEN GOLD BMW

Three teenagers who allegedly stole a gold BMW then ran from police have been arrested at Elizabeth North and charged.

The BMW was spotted by a patrol while travelling north on Main North Rd about 2am on Monday morning.

Police say the car had been stolen during a break-in at Tusmore on Sunday.

After a short pursuit, the BMW’s tyres were spiked near the intersection of Main North and Womma roads.

It then entered backstreets and was dumped at the corner of Woodford and Whiteparish roads.

The three occupants ran off but police foot patrols caught two of them.

Police Dog Rusty tracked the third suspect and found him hiding in a rear yard of a house.

The three boys, 16, 15 and 14, were arrested and charged with illegal use.

The 15-year-old, who allegedly was the driver, was also charged with dangerous driving, engage in police pursuit and driving unlicensed.

All three will appear in the Elizabeth Youth Court on Monday.

HOME GUTTED BY FIRE

The house fire that gutted a home in the northern suburbs on Sunday afternoon broke out after combustible items were placed too close to a heater, the MFS says.

About 1.30pm, emergency services were called to Mitchell St at Paralowie, following reports of the blaze.

A man who had escaped the house was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, then taken to hospital.

The fire caused an estimated $300,000 worth of damage to the property, which did not have a working smoke alarm.

Nearby residents have been warned to close their windows and doors due to smoke drift from the inferno.

CAR SLAMS INTO BUILDING

A mini-van carrying a tandoori oven crashed into a building in Adelaide’s southwest on Sunday morning.

About 9.30am, emergency services were called after the Chrysler mini-van went into a building at the corner of Marion Rd and Cungena Ave, Ascot Park.

The crash caused the oven to briefly catch fire, before MFS firefighters arrived to extinguish the blaze.

The driver, a 34-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The building, which is the site of an accounting business, was left with damage to its wall and veranda.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT AT PLAYGROUND

Police have released images of a person they wish to speak to in relation to an incident of “suspicious behaviour” at a children’s play area.

The person is pictured at the play area at Civic Park, Modbury, about 2pm on Friday.

Police are asking anyone who knows the identity of the person, or their whereabouts, to contact Crime Stoppers immediately on 1800 333 000.

SERIOUS CRASH ON EYRE HIGHWAY

A truck driver has been left with serious injuries and the Eyre Highway is closed in both directions after two trucks collided.

The crash occurred Just before 4.30am Sunday, near Fowlers Bay, 20km west of Fowlers Bay.

One truck rolled, leaving the driver with serious injuries, while a passenger and the other driver sustained minor injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions but it has now reopened.

WOMAN CRITICAL AFTER ADELAIDE HILLS SMASH

A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash in the Adelaide Hills on Saturday.

About 4.15pm, police and emergency services were called to Tregarthen Rd at Summertown after a Toyota sedan crashed into a Stobie pole, before landing down an embankment.

The driver, a 27-year-old Norton Summit man, was left with non-life threatening injuries but his passenger, a 27-year-old Dover Gardens woman, suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment.

Major Crash Investigators attended the scene, and the road was closed until just before 7.30pm Saturday.
