Parents, close friends of Amy Bowden, who died in suspected drug overdose, remember her as ‘magnetic, loving’ woman

They’re living in any parent’s worst nightmare. Now Amy Bowden’s heartbroken family and friends have opened up about the woman she was, as her boyfriend faces trial over her tragic death.

What happened to Amy Bowden?

Amy Bowden’s parents and closest friends are living in a nightmare.

Just weeks before what would have been the young woman’s 27th birthday, Amy’s parents say their lives were shattered when they received a phone call telling them she had passed away.

In the days following her death, Amy’s former boyfriend Ethan Lenny George Ross was charged with supplying a controlled drug. He is further charged with supplying drugs to a child.

Police allege he “shot her up” with methamphetamine to reverse a suspected heroin overdose, instead of calling an ambulance.

He has since pleaded not guilty to those charges, and the case will now go to trial.

As the alleged details of her daughter’s final moments came to light during the first court hearings, Amy’s mother silently carried her grief, but she’s now speaking out about what it’s been like to live without her first child.

“One of my most lovely memories of Amy was how she would end every conversation, she would always say I love you,” Michelle told The Advertiser.

“She would sometimes complain that I would say goodbye and hang up before she got to say it.

“Amy loved her family deeply, and they loved her.”

Michelle said that after hearing that she’d lost her girl, she and Amy’s father Bryan had “lost a piece of themselves”.

“No amount of time will ever end this nightmare we are living every day.

“We have lost a piece of ourselves.”

One of Amy’s closest friends, Clover Taylor, sat in the body of the courtroom as Mr Ross denied supplying drugs, and said Amy made her feel “less alone in the world”.

“Amy was a warm person. She was such a magnetic, intelligent, funny, and above all caring best friend, who in each other, we found deep comfort and felt so much less alone in the world,” Ms Taylor said.

“Amy was a spontaneous, adventurous and ambitious soul — her intelligence was inspiring, her bright energy, laughter and smile was infectious.

“She is one of those people who is, truly, one in a billion; irreplaceable.”

One of Amy’s high school friends Lydia said that when she thinks of Amy, she can still hear her laughter “ringing in my ears”.

“I have met only a few people for whom humour and joy came so easily, and Amy was one of the best of them,” she said.

“For years, I looked on in awe as she ran headfirst at all the things life threw at her. I will be forever grateful that she saw me as someone that she could share those experiences with and I will always think of her as that bright, kind woman who loved me as dearly as I will always love her.”

Mr Ross will appear in court ahead of trial early next year. His co-accused, Henry Cox, who police allege supplied the lethal meth to Mr Ross, has told a court he has no case to answer and will appear again next month.

They have both been charged with supplying or administering a controlled drug, with Mr Ross remaining in custody since his arrest.

He has also been charged with two counts of supplying a controlled drug to a child.

Neither Mr Ross nor Mr Cox is charged with causing her death.

Mr Cox, 19, however, through his lawyer Casey Isaacs told the court he will argue he has no case to answer.
