A “hardworking stay at home mum” who allegedly got in a brawl at a Hindley Falafel House was enjoying a child-free night, a court has heard.

Brooke Lee Haynes, 26, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday where a court heard she was enjoying a free night with her partner of three years.

Peter Hill, for Ms Haynes, said her client and her partner were enjoying a night off from their son who turns one next month.

“They had a night off from their son … they have responsibly caught an Uber into town but parents who don’t get away much, the night’s got out of hand clearly due to intoxication,” he said.

“We say it’s not the case that this is a lady with drinking problem or a drug problem, she’s simply a hardworking stay-at-home mother.

“The (police officer sustained) a broken arm and that’s not the subject of any charges, the two assault police come by way of two allegations of spitting.”

Police allege patrols were called to the popular party strip just before 1am this morning following reports a fight had broken out between a small group of people.

As police intervened, the officer fell to the ground and injured her arm. She has since been taken to hospital to undergo treatment.

Police allege that during the arrest the woman spat on officers.

The duo has been charged with a variety of charges including hindering police and aggravated assault.

The woman was refused police bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

The man was granted police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in May.

Mr Hill said Ms Haynes has a minimal criminal history and hasn’t appeared before a court for some years until Monday.

Magistrate Kate White granted Ms Haynes bail due to her “very limited history”.

Ms Haynes will next appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court next month.
