A 47-year-old northern suburbs man has been charged with allegedly raping one of his teenage employees while he was giving the young girl a lift home after work.

What happens after a sexual assault?

A 47-year-old northern suburbs man has been charged with rape, after a teenage girl alleged that the man sexually assaulted her while he was driving her home from work on Tuesday night.

South Australia Police (SAPOL) were called to a Two Wells property just before midnight, where the teenager and her mother gave DNA evidence and statements, accusing the girl’s boss of committing the crime.

The girl’s mother told The Advertiser that her daughter came home crying after a work shift and alleged that her boss had pulled the car over and sexually assaulted her just before he dropped her off.

“She got home and then I woke up to find her crying and then she told me what he had done so I called the police,” the mother said.

“I just feel like this is something that needs to be addressed because it happens to a lot of the young ladies that never get (justice) so I asked my daughter to go and report it.

“If one girl can read this, to read that they’ve gone through the same thing and see that this young girl (daughter) has been made to speak up, then maybe they will go and do the same thing.”

The girl’s mother said her daughter had been working at the man’s northern suburbs business for “about a month”, alongside her two older siblings.

However, on Tuesday, the mother said her youngest daughter was the only person asked to do a shift out of the sibling, and said that she felt like she had been “preyed on”, following the alleged assault.

“All last week and this week he has been asking for (my youngest daughter) to do shifts,” she said.

The girl’s mother commended the response and investigation from South Australia Police (SAPOL) who arrived at their home shortly after they were called.

A spokesperson for SAPOL confirmed that a man had been arrested, charged and given bail, with the matter now before the courts.

“A 47-year-old man from the northern suburbs was arrested and charged with rape after an alleged sexual assault at Two Wells on Tuesday 25 June,” the spokesperson said.

“The arrested man is known to the victim.

“As the matter is before the court, police cannot make any further comment.”

The man was bailed on Wednesday and is set to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court in August.
