CCTV reveals moments before Inglewood crash

A motorbike rider has died in the Adelaide Hills after losing control of his vehicle on North East Road.

Emergency services, including MedSTAR, attended the accident that happened near the Inglewood Inn, about 20km from Adelaide, just before 3.30pm on Tuesday.

SA Police said a 41-year-old man from Queensland failed to negotiate a bend and fell from his bike, colliding with a Holden Astra travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Holden, a 30-year-old woman from Woodville, was not injured but the man dies at the scene.

North East Road at Inglewood was blocked to traffic for roughly four hours while Major Crash officers investigated but has since re-opened.

CCTV footage from the Inglewood Inn shows the motorbike driving past the business in the 50km/h zone just seconds before the crash.

The footage also shows staff rushing to the scene with a defibrillator. Inglewood Inn owner Milly Howell, 32, said she heard the police sirens travelling past her Tea Tree Gully residence.

She told The Advertiser she often sees motorcyclists breaking speed limits on the road and it hurts the area’s reputation.

“It doesn’t bother me because I’ve been driving up the road for 15 years, but it’s always happening,” Ms Howell said.

“I’ve been doing a lot of wedding tours and I get couples telling me how nervous they were going up the road.

“It just makes people more scared of driving up here.”

Ms Howell said she had a minor collision with two motorcyclists on Saturday who were coming down Gorge Rd as she was turning from Torrens Hill Rd.

“I know someone had died a couple weeks ago at that spot and I got nervous making that turn because I know it’s a really bad spot.”

The man’s death marks 82 fatalities on South Australian roads this year compared to 54 this time last year.

“The cyclist was coming down Hampstead Rd from the city … cycling on the footpath,” they said.

The cyclist, a man, was brought to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic was banked up after Hampstead Rd was blocked for southbound traffic, but road closures have been lifted and traffic is flowing again.
