A man has died after being struck by a car in an alleged hit and run incident at Bowden last month.
The pedestrian, a 49-year-old man from Bowden, sustained serious life-threatening injuries after he was struck by the car on Hawker St, about 7.50pm on Monday, August 19.
He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but died in hospital on Monday, September 2.
The man’s death is the 58th on SA roads this year, compared to 75 at the same time last year.
Police are still searching for the vehicle that allegedly left the scene of the crash prior to patrols attending.
Major Crash Investigators are continuing to investigate the crash.
Two vehicles were captured on CCTV, but have since been cleared of any wrongdoing and eliminated from the investigation after it was alleged they may have been involved in the incident.
Initially, police released images of the two vehicles that were seen in the vicinity of the crash at the intersection of Park Tce and Hawker St.
The collision occurred in front of a Baptist Care SA facility that provides accommodation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men who are at risk of or are experiencing homelessness.
A local, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told The Advertiser he heard a thud and “commotion” but attributed it to the storm happening on Monday night.
He said he later came out to see emergency services and “someone on the floor”.
“It was a bit of a shock,” he said.
Locals said cars would often speed along Hawker Street despite the 40km/h speed limit.
Police urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has any other information to assist the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or call 1800 333 000.
