A group of armed assailants who attacked a man during a violent home invasion at West Beach remain on the run and the Operation Meld special taskforce is taking control of the investigation.
Police were called to the Seaview Rd property at 12.20am on Sunday after receiving reports of a group of people trying to break into a property.
A witness described the group as a gang of youths of African appearance believed to be linked to Operation Meld.
The group, who were allegedly armed with weapons, forced their way into the house and assaulted the occupants before damaging the property and escaping in several vehicles.
It is understood the property is used as an AirBnB, however police would not confirm those details.
A 21-year-old Munno Para West man was taken to hospital with cuts to his arms suffered during the incident.
His injuries are not life threatening and no arrests have been made.
Police have said they do not believe the attack was random and Operation Meld taskforce officers are handling the investigation.
Operation Meld was quietly launched last July with five officers, after the emergence of rival gangs largely comprised of Sudanese youths and young adults, dubbing themselves 051 and KBS.
Meld’s aim is to not just quell their violence, but their criminal activities that largely revolve around frauds, deceptions, minor robberies and some drug trafficking.
