A mystery cannabis crop has been uncovered in a tiny beachside town in SA’s South-East in one of two local drug busts over the past few days.
Mount Gambier police found the cannabis crop on Thursday at the small beachside town of Blackfellows Caves after a search in scrubland.
Officers found a mature cannabis crop containing more than 35 cannabis plants at the idyllic fishing town of just 70-odd people – about 30 minutes from Mount Gambier.
Police are continuing to investigate.
Meanwhile, on Friday, police arrested a 42-year-old man from a Penola address and charged him with manufacturing a controlled drug after discovering a clandestine laboratory night during a search at the address.
Officers seized and dismantled the methamphetamine lab with assistance from Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives.
The man was refused bail and was set to appear at Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Monday.
