Man accused of role in ANOM plot to murder bikie at Rosslyn Park denied bail

A man arrested under the Operation Ironside bust over his alleged role in three plots to murder a bikie has faced court seeking bail.

An Operation Ironside-accused has been refused bail – despite potentially spending more than four years on remand in prison before a trial – for his alleged involvement in a murder plot.

On Monday, Justice Laura Stein refused bail of any form to one of the men accused of three murder plots, one at Rosslyn Park.

During the Supreme Court hearing, the court heard the man, who cannot legally be identified, was not an official member of an outlaw motorcycle gang, but showed a “willingness” to assist in their dealings.

His involvement was allegedly uncovered in the AN0M messages accessed by the Australian Federal Police.

In a recent South Australian Court of Appeal Judgement, the court ruled the messages taken from the AN0M application by the AFP were not illegally intercepted.

The man is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and participation in a criminal organisation.

The court heard the conspiracy to murder charge related to allegations the man was acting at the “behest” of one of the most senior members of the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang.

“(The man allegedly) took steps which were part of three thwarted plans to murder a man by shooting him with a handgun,” Her Honour said.

“There is no apparent connection or personal animosity between (the man) and the victim.”

The court heard the alleged victim had not expressed any “concerns” for his safety, but the “three attempts against him” was a relevant factor Her Honour had considered during the application.

The court heard the man had varying degrees of involvement in the alleged murder plots, including sourcing “vehicles and the means to destroy them” for the first two – and allegedly planning to pull the trigger for the third.

“The AN0M messages allegedly connected to handle (that related to the man) include references such as positive responses to a question ‘if the recipient of the message felt like shooting someone?’ and making sure everything including bullets was wiped down, to a mock run and preparing an alibi,” Justice Stein said.

The court heard a guarantor was prepared to put up $50,000 to support the bail application, and he had been in custody for more than three years.

Justice Stein refused the man bail of all kinds and remanded him in custody until his next appearance next year.
