Victorian man, 43, charged with attempted murder after police officer struck by a car in Ucolta

A Victorian man has been charged with several offences including attempted murder, after a cop was struck by a vehicle in the state’s Mid North.

A Victorian man has been charged with attempted murder among other charges, after a Brevet Sergeant was struck by a car in the state’s Mid North on Friday afternoon.

At 3pm, police tried to stop a silver Holden SUV on the Barrier Hwy, Ucolta – just over 250km north of Adelaide – when it struck and injured a police officer.

Police said the local Brevet Sergeant was initially taken to the Peterborough Hospital for medical treatment, after sustaining non-life threatening injuries.

He was later flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The driver, a 43-year-old man, allegedly fled the scene but was tracked by Polair as he continued travelling south on the Barrier Hwy.

By 3.45pm, the man was safely taken into custody near the Barrier Hwy – about 1.6km north of Hallett.

He has been charged with attempted murder, acts of endanger life, dangerous driving to escape police pursuit, leave the scene of an accident and other traffic offences.

His car was also seized and towed for forensic examination.

Police said will be refused bail before he appears at the Port Pirie Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Port Pirie CIB detectives and Major Crash investigators – who attended and examined the crash scene – are investigating the circumstances that led up to the incident.
