Lucindale Police Station reopens after Sgt Jason Doig’s shooting death in November

Lucindale’s police station is set to reopen more than a month after the town’s only police officer was gunned down in the line of duty.

Lucindale’s only police station has reopened after the death of Brevet Sergeant Jason Doig, the town’s only full-time police officer.

In November 2023, Acting Police Commissioner Linda Williams said the station would be temporarily closed after Sergeant Doig was allegedly gunned down by 26-year-old Jaydn Stimson after police had been called out to his property.

From Monday January 8, the Lucindale station will be open again from 1pm to 4pm every Monday and partial services will resume, according to SA Police’s Facebook page.

As the Lucindale Police Station’s officer-in-charge, Sergeant Doig’s death left the station closed and the tight-knight community reeling.

Speaking to The Advertiser shortly afterwards, Lucindale and Naracoorte Mayor Patrick Ross said Sergeant Doig “lived and breathed” his work, regularly giving up his Friday nights to patrol the pub in the hopes of keeping locals safe.

“The police station is across the road from the delicatessen and 40 metres from the front door of the hotel … Every policeman that has ever been in our town has been absolutely part of our community,” Mr Ross said.

Mr Stimson was charged with murder and attempted murder, and will return to court in April.
