A young Ingle Farm man has died and four other people were taken to hospital after a serious crash on the Fleurieu Peninsula on Saturday night.
Police and emergency services were called to Victor Harbor Rd, Hindmarsh Valley, about 6.30pm after a Mitsubishi station wagon and a Ford truck towing a trailer carrying camels were involved in a collision.
The Mitsubishi driver, a 20-year-old Ingle Farm man, died at the scene. At least two camels were euthanised.
The driver of the Ford, a 42-year-old woman from Kangarilla, was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre by road where she remains in a critical but stable condition.
Her passenger, a 75-year-old woman from McLaren Flat was flown to the Flinders Medical Centre and is in a stable condition.
Two young children were also in the vehicle and were taken to the local South Coast District Hospital.
Witnesses in the area reported seeing several ambulances as well as police vehicles and a fire truck at the scene.
Victor Harbor Rd was closed between Welch Rd and Goolwa Rd, and also at the Hindmarsh Tiers Rd and Victor Harbor Rd intersection.
Major Crash Investigators attended the scene with the road reopening just after 4am.
“It didn’t look good,” one motorist said.
The man’s death is the third life lost on SA roads compared with zero at the same time last year.
