Mourners converged at a fatal crash scene at Kilburn on Saturday to honour motorcyclist Shane “Hendo” Henderson with burnouts, flowers and boisterous tributes

Mr Henderson, 28, was riding along Churchill Rd on Friday when he was killed after colliding with a ute turning into a driveway.

He was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with critical injuries just after 6.30pm on Friday but died a short time later.

The driver of the car, a 50-year-old Kilburn woman, was not injured but taken to hospital as a precaution.

Friends at the site on Saturday paid tribute with rowdy cheers for burnouts, with some pouring beers onto the footpath and one getting a boost to write “RIP” and “I love you” on a street sign.

His father David Henderson also visited the scene.

“Shane I miss you, you are everything to me, you always will be,” he said.

“I hope you are all right up there mate, I love you.”

Traffic controller workmate Damien Roberts was supposed to go riding with the Largs North man and Hayden Taylor had a cruise booked with his “cousin” for this weekend – plans that will never eventuate.

“He would give you the T-shirt off his back, he would always be there for you,” Mr Roberts said.

Another friend, Jordan Weetra, said Mr Henderson had a tough start to life “but he had turned it around and was doing a bloody good job of it.”

“Have fun you’ll be the brightest star for all eternity.”

Friend, Connor Matthews is “speechless”. “You’ll forever be missed,” he posted in tribute to Shane.

Hayden Taylor has been left heartbroken. “My bro make sure your partying hard until we all join you, tyres baking and cans cracked for you cuzzzzy,” he wrote on Facebook in tribute to his friend.

Friend, Nathan Sweeney is devastated Shane is gone.

“You still had a good life ahead of you despite all the mistakes you’ve made. But the people that (sic) new you knows that you were one loyal brother not to your mates but to everyone.

“The love you have for everyone will never go unnoticed brother.

“Shane you left a big (impact) on everyone that did know you especially me,” he wrote on Facebook.

Fellow motorcyclist Diogo Carmo promises to “never forget” Shane’s name.

“It hurts so much,” he wrote.

Another friend, Cam said Shane was “taken too soon”. “Fly high brother you’ll be sadly missed”.

Churchill Rd was closed between Hopetoun Ave and Kintore Ave for several hours while Major Crash investigators attended the scene but has now been reopened.

The 28-year-old’s death is the second life lost this year compared to zero at the same time last year.

He is the first motorcyclist to lose his life in 2023.
