Australia's Court System

Allegations an elderly woman was abducted from a Holden Hill carpark have been withdrawn, by SA Police, on the morning they were supposed to go to trial.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, prosecutors tendered no evidence against Huou Guoch Kuoch and Vuoch Hieng Kuoch.

The duo had originally been charged with multiple offences, including unlawfully detaining a person and endangering life, over an alleged incident in June 2021.

No reason was given, in court, for the decision by SA Police, which must now pay Huoy Guoch Kuoch $4191 in court costs.

Huoy Guoch Kuoch, 49, previously appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court by video link after she was accused of abducted the 88-year-old woman – a family member – with two other women.

Kuoch, of Ridgehaven, was charged with one count each of unlawfully detaining a person and endangering life.

The elderly woman and her carer were in the carpark on the corner of Grand Junction and North East roads about 11.40am on Thursday.

Police previously alleged Kuoch and two other women – believed to be her family members – placed the woman into their silver Honda with SA registration S443ASZ and drove east on Grand Junction Road.

The woman was returned to her home unharmed.
