Gordon Collingwood granted bail by Port Adelaide Magistrates Court after alleged Thebarton fire

A man in his 70s has been granted bail over accusations he set his Thebarton house on fire.

A Thebarton man in his 70s accused of having set his Housing Trust bedroom on fire has been granted bail on an arson charge.

Gordon Collingwood faced the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday by phone, in a bedside hearing from the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Mr Collingwood has yet to plead to one count of arson, alleged to have caused $50,000 damage.

SA Police allege that, on Saturday, he lit a fire in the bedroom of his Housing Trust property.

MFS crews contained the blaze to the bedroom and extinguished it within 30 minutes, while an off-duty nurse treated the man for burns to his face.

Mr Collingwood was subsequently taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for further treatment.

On Monday, the court granted Mr Collingwood bail to face the Adelaide Magistrates Court in March.
