Former kickboxing champ, Unley carjacker Bryan ‘The General’ Hasse to be extradited to NSW for more jail time

A former kickboxing champion who carjacked a woman in Unley and robbed a jewellery store has been brought back before the courts.

A violent carjacker who boasted that he was an “international crook” has been extradited from Adelaide to NSW to serve jail time for armed robbery.

On Friday, the Adelaide Magistrates Court heard the SA Parole Board had “no opposition” to the extradition order of former champion kickboxer Bryan Hasse.

He will complete an unexpired two-year non-parole period for an earlier robbery in NSW.

Hasse, a former World Boxing Council featherweight division champion, resorted to a self-confessed life of theft and robbery after his fighting career was cut short.

In May 2018, he violently carjacked a woman at Unley.

The woman wrote in her victim impact statement that she thought her attacker was armed with a gun before she was brutally bashed.

She said the carjacking occurred three days after her wedding.

“I mourn the lost days that should have been sweet and joyful. Although I’m thankful that this has taught me to live each day to the fullest,” she wrote.

“I started screaming with rage, shock and distress. People in hoodies make my heart beat faster and I go on high alert.”

He also stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of gold jewellery from Shiels Jewellers in Rundle Mall in May 2018.

While in custody, Hasse bragged about his crimes to an undercover police officer, saying he dreamt of becoming “an international crook”.

He talked about wanting to do ‘three jobs, three good ones’ to get $90,000 and flee out of the country. He boasted about being an ‘international crook’. ”He also claimed “demons” had told him to rob people, but then admitted to fabricating his alleged psychotic symptoms “to play the system”.

In 2020, District Court Judge Rauf Soulio – who is also a highly respected Muay Thai referee – jailed the former fighting champion for almost six years but said he could seek parole from June 2021, telling him to return to life a stronger, better person.

Flanked by detectives, Hasse was extradited on Friday at 2.45pm. He was remanded in custody on his arrival at Sydney Airport.
