A former child protection worker who was once a Flinders University researcher insists he never “sextorted” abuse material from a 14-year-old girl, a court has heard.
In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday, Duncan Langford-Glass, 38, pleaded not guilty to four counts of using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material and one count of using a carriage service to access child abuse material.
Mr Langford-Glass, of Morphett Vale, will now take his matter to trial in the District Court.
The former College of Medicine and Public Health research fellow is accused of communicating, via Instagram, with another man about children.
A prosecutor previously submitted that man – whose identity is suppressed – facing charges separately.
“There is communication in relation to a female child believed to be around the ages of 8 and 10,” they said.
“There is also evidence of sextortion … extracts from their Instagram chat show discussion in relation to a female child aged approximately 14 years old who resides in SA.
“This accused offers to provide the other person with $200 in order to facilitate that individual to solicit child exploitation material from the child.”
Documents released to The Advertiser by the court revealed his alleged offending took place between October 23 and December 12 last year.
Mr Langford-Glass was arrested by JACET detectives in March last year.
According to his online biography, Mr Langford-Glass has a Bachelor’s degree in social work.
“(He) has worked within government and non-government areas including social and mental health, child protection and Indigenous health,” it states.
Magistrate Simon Smart remanded Mr Langford-Glass on continuing bail and committed him for trial in May.
