A Flinders University staffer with a prior career in child protection has been arrested by elite police and charged with “sextorting” abuse material from a teenage girl.

College of Medicine and Public Health research fellow Duncan David Langford-Glass faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday by video link.

Mr Langford-Glass – a Kamilaroi man from NSW who now resides in SA – was arrested by Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team detectives on Tuesday.

He has yet to plead to charges of having used a carriage service, namely the internet, to solicit child exploitation material.

Documents released to The Advertiser by the court revealed his alleged offending took place between October 23 and December 12 last year.

Police allege he used a carriage service from an address in Morphett Vale to solicit the material.

According to his online biography, Mr Langford-Glass, 37, has a Bachelor’s degree in social work.

“(He) has worked within government and non-government areas including social and mental health, child protection and Indigenous health,” it states.

He is the co-author of a study called “If you can’t feel Country beneath your feet, something’s wrong: Foot stomp in southern Adelaide”, which deals with Indigenous podiatric needs.

In court on Wednesday, a Commonwealth prosecutor alleged Mr Langford-Glass had communicated, via Instagram, with another man about children.

That man, he said, is facing charges separately and his identity has been suppressed in those proceedings.

“There is communication in relation to a female child believed to be around the ages of 8 and 10,” he said.

“There is also evidence of sextortion... extracts from their Instagram chat show discussion in relation to a female child aged approximately 14 years old who resides in SA.

“This accused offers to provide the other person with $200 in order to facilitate that individual to solicit child exploitation material from the child.”

Mr Langford-Glass’ lawyer asked his client be released on bail, saying he had no prior offending history.

Magistrate Simon Smart granted Mr Langford-Glass bail in the sum of $500, and banned him from leaving the state or accessing the internet, to face court again in July.
