Former Bachelorette contestant Paddy Colliar tells of how he was stabbed working as topless waiter at 60th birthday

A former reality TV contestant working as a topless waiter at a 60th birthday party in Para Hills West says he was stabbed when he went to aid a woman.

A former reality TV contestant has described how he was stabbed at a party in Para Hills West after going to the aid of a woman.

Paddy Colliar, a contestant on 2018’s The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise 2019, received stab wounds to his back at a Beafield Rd fitness studio just before 1.30am on Sunday.

Mr Colliar said he’s still in shock after the incident, which happened while he was working as a topless waiter at a 60th birthday party.

“The night was going amazingly, everyone was getting along so well,” he said.

“I was right next to them (a man and a woman) and I just stepped in and said, ‘that’s no way to treat a woman’. Any man would do the same thing.”

Police will allege Collier was stabbed by a Semaphore man, 23.

“I felt this little jab in my stomach, I didn’t think anything of it, the adrenaline was pretty high,” he said.

“I walked away and then I noticed there was blood pissing everywhere, it was like a fountain.

“It happened so quick, the whole thing is crazy, it was pretty intense.”

Mr Colliar said he started to faint, and drifted in and out of consciousness before police and ambulance officers arrived.

He was treated at the scene and taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with a minor wound.

“I’m still getting flashbacks from the night,” he said.

“I have absolutely no words at all … it was a family birthday, little kids were there that witnessed it. It’s just a shambles, I didn’t think this would ever happen.”

Police allege the suspect had an altercation with a woman, before Mr Colliar stepped in and was attacked.

Mr Colliar, of West Lakes, who has more than 67,000 Instagram followers, said he’s still in significant pain and will be bedridden for two weeks but doesn’t regret his actions.

“I feel like I did the right thing. I don’t regret what I did. I would do it for anyone, it’s just in my nature,” he said.

“People that know me know I’m the most active, bubbly, outgoing lad that wants to have a positive impact on people’s life, and now I’m the one here sitting with fractured ribs lots of bruising and stitches, I’m just thanking God that it wasn’t much worse.

“The reality is that my life has changed and my family have also been affected in so many ways by what has happened.”

He also wanted to say thank you to his fans who have sent hundreds of messages of support.

“I’m trying to stay positive and from the bottom of my heart, the positive comments and people reaching out to me is probably the only thing keeping me smiling,” said Mr Colliar, who worked as a personal trainer in Melbourne before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.

The man alleged to be responsible left before patrols arrived, but was found and arrested at a nearby service station.

The Semaphore man was charged with aggravated assault cause harm and was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on September 17.

About 30 people were at the function, and police are still investigating breaches of the Emergency Management Act directions.
