A fire from a previous burn-off reignited and devastated a residential property on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
An SA Country Fire Service spokesperson said the fire from a previous burn-off reignited on Thursday morning and spread through pine trees onto a residential property at Yundi, near Mount Compass.
“CFS responded to multiple triple-0 calls from locals and sent 35 volunteer firefighters on six trucks and two bulk water carriers,” the spokesperson said.
“The fire engulfed a large 30 metre by 10 metre shed, which stored farm machinery, including a new excavator that also stored the family business, a wedding and party hire equipment company.”
The CFS spokesperson said crews worked hard and in the rain to stop the fire from spreading into a nearby granny flat.
“(Crews) also saved the two storey residential home, which is roughly valued at $500,000,” the spokesperson said.
“However, the main shed, a smaller shed and nearby water tanks could not be saved.”
No one was injured and the damage bill has been estimated at $750,000.
The CFS issued a warning at 7.30am on Thursday, asking nearby residents to monitor conditions.
“There is a shed fire burning on Enterprise Rd, with weather conditions causing smoke to travel towards Nangkita,” the warning said.
“There is currently no threat to the community. If you are in this area, stay informed and monitor local conditions.”
