Fire causes closure Rivers store at Mount Barker

A popular Mount Barker shop has been forced to close as a fire caused $250,000 of damage to the store overnight.

A shop fire has forced the closure of a Hills business overnight with a blaze causing an estimated $250,000 damage.

SA Metropolitan Fire Service crews responded to a structure fire on McLaren St at Mount Barker as the Rivers shop was alight.

Firefighters were alerted by a 000 call at just after 1am with reports smoke was coming from the roof of the store.

Six fire trucks with 30 firefighters attended the scene and worked to bring the fire under control – managing to contain the blaze within 15 minutes and save the exterior of the building.

Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire as an electrical fault evaporator unit.

Rivers issued a statement to say the store is closed until further notice.
