A man will spend the weekend behind bars after the police chopper was called in to track down a speeding luxury vehicle through the western suburbs overnight.
Just after midnight on Saturday, police officers attempted to stop a black Mercedes-Benz sedan which was travelling north on Tapleys Hill Rd in Seaton.
The car then sped off and turned left on to West Lakes Boulevard, then left on to Frederick Rd and eventually onto Trimmer Pde where it stopped at a level crossing.
An officer got out of their car to speak to the driver of the Mercedes, but instead it sped through the boom gates before turning left on to Tapleys Hill Rd.
The police chopper and extra ground patrols were called to the area as the Mercedes continued speeding through the western suburbs for nearly an hour.
Police said road spikes were used numerous times to try and stop the vehicle, but it continued driving on its rims before finally coming to a stop on Horsley St in Lockleys.
The driver fled the vehicle but was arrested soon after.
After conducting a search of the vehicle, police said they found more than $50,000 cash and about 10 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
A 27-year-old man from Findon was charged with dangerous driving to escape a police pursuit, money laundering and trafficking in a controlled drug.
He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
